There are many different concepts in practice. Some people think that practice is meditation, so as to obtain physical and mental health and develop their own potential. Some people think that practice is to cultivate one's mind, and to surrender one's unhealthy mind of "greed, delusion and doubt" is practice. Different religions and sects have different definitions.
So, we don't need to argue about which is right. As long as it conforms to the laws of nature and can achieve its goal through practice and demonstration, that is a good method. Our goal is to achieve physical and mental health, enhance wisdom, achieve ignorance, see the enlightened state of ontology, and understand the causal relationship between everything. Meditation is a very good method from any angle.
The University also tells us, "Zhi Zhi will decide later, then he can be quiet, then he can be calm, then he can be safe, then he can think, and then he can get it." If you want to finally "get", you can't do without the words "fixed" and "static". The following five steps are for your reference.
Step 1: Stay completely relaxed.
You don't need strict posture, you can find the most comfortable and natural posture, whether sitting or lying, single or double, and let yourself relax completely. The premise is clear-headed, otherwise I will fall asleep directly.
Step 2: Adjust your breathing.
Living is a breath. We can't live without it 24 hours a day, but we seldom pay attention to it. Now focus on your breathing, keep it even, breathe naturally, and don't be too slow until you don't have to pay attention and adjust your breathing frequency.
Step 3: Look at your thoughts.
Don't contradict your idea, just look and don't stretch it, just let it die. After a while, you will find that the speed of ideas is getting slower and slower, and there will be a blank gap between the two. Slowly, this gap will get bigger and longer.
Step 4: Stop thinking.
It's hard not to think at first. We can use a simple concept instead, such as chanting the name of Buddha or bodhisattva, or a short spell, first read it with your mouth and then meditate in your heart. Use this concept to cover ideas from the subconscious. This process requires persistent and repeated training, until as long as the thoughts are together, the subconscious mind will cover it by chanting the name of the Buddha itself. Slowly, our distractions will be less and less, and our hearts will be cleaner and cleaner.
Step 5: Observe.
When we can control the subconscious to stop thinking, thoughts can cover it freely together. At this time, we can enter a quiet moment, experience the feeling of peace, and then slowly settle down. With the gradual deepening of meditation, we can feel deeply, awake, quiet, and then observe. Speaking of observation, without "self" and all "truth", you can observe impermanence and everything very easily.
Meditation is a very natural state, which requires us to keep training and form habits, and the habits will be natural. We will see that our delusions, distractions, troubles and contradictions are naturally fading away, and our hearts are very quiet and harmonious. This realm can only be understood, but not explained. For example, when people drink water, they will know themselves very well. Only when they have done it themselves and witnessed it personally can they understand the connotation of this realm.
