Economic loss assessment of urban water and soil pollution

The final result of environmental pollution is an increase in the incidence rate of residents and a deterioration in the nature of diseases. People living in polluted environment have to pay higher medical and health care fees in order to maintain normal health level. Based on this consideration, it is suggested to use the following formula to calculate the economic loss of environmental pollution:

Le=(Cc—Cp)×Q8

In which: Le is the social and economic loss caused by environmental pollution.

Cc is the per capita medical expenses of urban residents.

Cp is the per capita health care cost of rural families.

Q8 is the total population of urban residents.

According to the above formula, the economic loss of environmental pollution in this area is calculated as shown in Table 3- 16.
