What are the benefits of hugging?

First of all, express love.

Generally speaking, couples or lovers hug each other to express their love. Such hugs include not only simple physical contact, but also occasional kisses.

Second, express the warmth of human nature.

When people haven't seen each other for a long time and/or are about to say goodbye, the two sides embrace each other to express their thoughts of each other. When people are moved, nervous and upset, they will hug each other and give each other warmth.

Hug and health

Many people think that hugging is a direct contact with each other's bodies, which will have a physiological impact on both sides' bodies, including suddenly feeling relaxed, so hugging is considered to be beneficial to health.

In 2005, a group of scientists from North Carolina State University made an experiment to hug 38 couples. This study shows that when couples hug, oxytocin produced by pituitary gland in both men and women's brains suddenly increases. Because oxytocin can lower blood pressure, it can also reduce the risk of heart disease.

The study also pointed out that cortisol in women will decrease when they hug. Because cortisol can raise blood pressure, women's blood pressure will drop more than men's when hugging.

Psychologists have confirmed that hugging has the ability of psychotherapy and can promote health, happiness and stability. Hugging and touching has always been regarded as the basic tool of medical treatment.

Embrace culture

In western culture, when parents, family and friends haven't met for a long time and/or are about to say goodbye, they usually give each other a deep hug. And such a hug also expresses how two people feel about each other.

In eastern culture, hugs are very rare, because they do not encourage intimate contact between people. Most hugs can only be seen between lovers, lovers or parents and children. Hugs between friends or adults are very rare. However, in Central Asian countries, under the influence of Islamic sharia law, hugs between the opposite sex are generally not allowed in public places, while hugs between the same sex are quite common.

In China culture, most people don't take the initiative to hug, and friends don't hug when they meet suddenly on the roadside. In ancient times, many people greeted each other by bowing or punching, but now they shake hands or wave. Because most people find hugging disgusting and embarrassed in public.
