Requirements for physical examination of seafarers on seagoing ships
1 Subject content and scope of application
This standard stipulates the health conditions for seafarers to be on duty safely; Detection methods and evaluation principles.
This standard is applicable to the assessment of the health qualifications that seafarers who apply for People's Republic of China (PRC) Seafarers' Competency Certificate, People's Republic of China (PRC) Seafarers' Professional Training Certificate and Seafarers' or Mechanic's Job Visa should have in order to be competent for the corresponding posts, fully perform their duties, be on duty safely and respond to emergencies at sea. The assessment of the health qualification of inland river crew can also be implemented with reference to these provisions.

3 terminology
3. 1 Physical fitness refers to the basic physiological qualities that seafarers should have to perform their maritime duties safely.
3.2 The average seaman who constitutes a part of the navigational watch refers to the average seaman who constitutes a part of the navigational watch stipulated in Rule II/6 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978.
3.3 The crew members who form part of the engine room watch refer to the crew members who form part of the engine room watch as stipulated in Rule III/6 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978.
3.4 Newly-recorded beginners refer to seafarers who have actually worked on seagoing ships for less than 12 months.

8 evaluation principle
8. 1 Seafarers' health status should fully meet the corresponding indicators specified in this standard, and those who fail to meet one of the indicators may not take up their posts.
8.2 For seafarers whose health status does not meet this standard, the hospital should re-evaluate and issue a certificate when their symptoms disappear or are alleviated and the indicators specified in this standard are stable.
