Zhongwei, referred to as Wei for short, is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is located in the middle and west of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the transition zone from Ningxia Plain to Loess Plateau, between east longitude10417 ′ ~10610 ′ and north latitude 3606 ′ ~ 3750 ′.
Zhongwei belongs to temperate continental monsoon climate, with abundant sunshine, large temperature difference between day and night and little precipitation [1]. As of 20 19, Zhongwei has jurisdiction over shapotou district, Zhongning and Haiyuan counties, and the Municipal People's Government is located at No.5 Zheng Tong East Road, Binhe Town, shapotou district [2]. By the end of 20021,the resident population of Zhongwei was 1.075 million.
In the first year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1403), Youhu was renamed Ningxia Zhongwei, and in the second year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1724), it was renamed Zhongwei County, which belonged to Ningxia Prefecture, and Haiyuan County belonged to Pingliang Prefecture. 1933 Zhongwei County is divided into Zhongwei County and Zhongning County.
In 2004, the prefectural central defender was established [4]. Zhongwei is a railway hub connecting northwest and north China, and five expressways, including Beijing-Tibet, pass through it. Zhongwei Shapotou Airport is a civil aviation airport.
Zhongwei has Shapotou, Golden Sand Island Leisure Resort and other natural tourist attractions, Shuanglong Grottoes, Zhongwei Damaidi Rock Paintings, Yiwanquan Paleolithic Site [1] and other cultural and historical attractions, as well as national and provincial intangible projects such as sheepskin raft making skills, mountain flowers, oral strings and Yangko in Sui and Tang Dynasties.
