My first intimate contact with the church was on the Red Square in Moscow, far from Wan Li. When I visited Eastern Europe in the mid-1980s, I stayed at the Embassy of China in the Soviet Union because there was no direct flight and I had to go back and forth through Moscow, and the first-class flight time was nearly one week. The embassy arranges special buses to visit Red Square twice a week. When I stood in the dreamy Red Square, the first thing I saw was Vasily Ascension Cathedral at the southern end of Red Square! I was deeply shocked by the towering nine towers and the glittering cathedral dome.
The church stands between heaven and earth in a solidified form, like an exquisite sculpture, like a steep and magical mountain range. People listen to the melodious bells of the church, read scriptures, cling to the warmth of the sun in their hearts, and pray for fate. I don't know why, I felt a strong collision in my heart, and the softest place in my heart was awakened by the divine light. This may be an emotion, or it may be an emotion that can only be experienced when you are there.
Although I don't have religious belief, being in the rich and quiet scene of the church, I seem to see the wandering figure in the church in the past, the magnificent landscape and the scene of prayer. Lonely people in the dark night, no matter who they are, are powerful, rich and poor, old and young. In those sacred days, they are full of solemn and peaceful expressions before God.
