Why is it not allowed to make a fire to cook at the Cold Food Festival?

There is a "Cold Food Festival" in our traditional festivals, usually the day before Tomb-Sweeping Day. On this day, the ancients often forbade fire and ate cold meals. So, why not make a fire and cook on this day? This is related to the origin of the "Cold Food Festival".

In fact, there are different opinions about the origin of the "Cold Food Festival", but the most popular one is the meson push to commemorate the Jin State in the Spring and Autumn Period. It is said that during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Zhong Er, the son of the State of Jin, fled and lived a hard life. The meson push behind him did not hesitate to cut meat from his leg to satisfy his hunger. Later, Zhong Er became a monarch (that is, Jin Wengong) and was rewarded with meritorious service, but only meson Tui refused to be blocked. He took his mother to live in seclusion in Mianshan and refused to come out. Jin Wengong is at his wit's end, so he wants to release Yamakaji and force him to go down the mountain. Unexpectedly, the mother and son would rather be burned to death than come out. To commemorate Jiezitui, Jin Wengong ordered Mianshan to be renamed "Jieshan" and a temple was built to erect a monument. At the same time, it was also ordered that on the day when the meson was pushed to death, "cold food was forbidden to fire", and the whole country was not allowed to bake food with fire, only dry food and cold food could be eaten.

The ancients respected Jie Tui's integrity, so the custom of "no fire during the Cold Food Festival" was handed down, forming the special festival "Cold Food Festival". Nowadays, the custom of "forbidding fire and cold food", together with the "cold food festival" itself, has gradually disappeared in most parts of China.
