Water science and health

Water is the solvent of living matter and the nutrient of life. Normal people need 2500ml of water every day. In vivo, some water exists in combination with biomolecules such as proteoglycan, which plays an important role in shaping cells and tissues. The other part of unbound water is mainly used as an important solvent inside and outside the cell.

Since water is so important, shouldn't we drink as much water as possible? Traditionally, drinking more water can dilute carcinogens in urine, increase the fluidity of water, and eliminate metabolites in the body in time, thus preventing many diseases such as stones. However, the modern view holds that drinking too much water is harmful to health. For example, a study by medical workers at new york State University shows that drinking too much water every day increases the risk of bladder cancer. Another medical expert found through research that drinking too much water will dilute the blood and affect the oxygen exchange of cells in the whole body. Especially when brain cells are deprived of oxygen, people will become dull. It can be seen that the more water you drink, the better.

According to the statistics of the World Health Organization, 80% of diseases in the world are related to water or water source pollution. For example, when there is a flood disaster, people are often prone to diarrhea because they drink water polluted by cholera orphans and other substances. The reason why residents around the lead factory are prone to abdominal pain is also lead poisoning caused by drinking water contaminated with lead. Therefore, people's domestic water must be clean water without pathogenic bacteria and toxic substances.

However, it must also be pointed out that drinking clean water does not mean that you can sit back and relax. For example, drinking boiled tap water often will increase the incidence of bladder cancer and rectal cancer. This is because chlorine interacts with residual organic matter in water to produce dihydroxy compound, a toxic carcinogenic compound. For another example, people who often drink hard water will increase the incidence of stones, which is also because hard water contains more calcium and magnesium ions, which can be converted into insoluble salts and deposited in the kidneys, causing kidney calculi.

It seems that drinking water is also scientific. How should we drink water healthily?

First of all, water should be odorless, tasteless and transparent. The number of bacteria contained in water should not exceed the international standards, and it contains a variety of nutrients, such as mineral water containing a variety of macro-elements and trace elements needed by the human body.

Secondly, drinking water and tea should not be excessive. The so-called drinking water should not be excessive. This only shows that under normal circumstances, it is not impossible to drink more. Sometimes, when the human body has symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, vomiting, polyuria or coma, sweating, etc., it will lose a lot of water, so it is necessary to replenish water.

The degree of blood coagulation in the morning is 20 times higher than that in the evening. In the morning, exercisers should drink plenty of water, which can dilute the activating factors that may be produced in the blood and disperse local coagulation substances through the scouring effect of blood. At the same time, it can supplement the water lost during exercise and at night;

People who eat a lot of meat or eggs must also drink more water, because meat contains more fat, and the metabolism of fat provides more energy to the human body, which will produce acid and acetone. If there are more of these two substances in the blood, people will suffer from ketosis. Eggs are high in protein, and its digestive product is urea, which will gradually gather in the blood and cause uremia. Therefore, drinking more water can increase urine volume and eliminate toxic substances in the blood. Therefore, although drinking water should not be excessive, it does not rule out that some people can drink more water under certain circumstances.

Third, different physiological functions lead to different ways of drinking water. The colon and rectum muscles of the elderly are prone to atrophy and have poor defecation ability. Coupled with the decrease of mucus secretion in the intestine, the stool is easy to be secret. Therefore, the elderly should drink water in moderation, and the general water consumption should be controlled at about 2 liters per day. Although the water content of newborn babies accounts for 60% of the whole body, the systems of infants under 2 years old are still developing. If we only consider the large proportion of water that babies need, and supplement a lot of water regardless of their physiological functions, in fact, it will only cause a lot of juice or water to fill their small stomachs, so that they don't want to eat or can't eat those foods that contain nutrients and calories that their bodies need, leading to malnutrition and affecting their development.

Fourth, we should drink different kinds of water according to different physiological needs. If athletes drink health drinks, they need to add a little salt and sugar; For example, patients with hypertension should generally have less salt and less water; Old people and children had better drink warm water, which is less irritating to people and beneficial to the activity of enzymes. This is based on different physiological needs and different drinking water properties.

Finally, should you drink water when eating? It is generally believed that drinking water will dilute digestive juice and is not conducive to digestion. In fact, water is a good solvent for nutrients, which can make the biochemical reactions of macromolecules, protein and fat in the body go smoothly in the solution or on the interface, and is also beneficial to the activity of digestive enzymes. Proper water supplementation during meals, that is, more soup foods, is not harmful to digestion, but beneficial.

In short, although water is a living substance, we should pay attention to scientific and hygienic water use when drinking. Drinking more and drinking less depends on the situation and cannot be generalized.
