What is a root?

English words have their own rules. Only by mastering the rules of word formation can we remember words well, quickly and accurately. The core part of English word formation lies in the root, and the meaning of words is mainly reflected through the root. Roots can be combined into words alone or together, and the part of speech and meaning of words can be changed through prefixes and suffixes. (Roots and affixes are called word-formation morphemes) In other words, words generally consist of roots, prefixes and suffixes. The root determines the meaning, the prefix changes the meaning, and the suffix determines the part of speech.
