SPF is the abbreviation of "no specific pathogen" and is often used in the field of biological research. SPF organism is a general term, and the accurate statement should be to explain which diseases it is, and to determine that it has no pathogen by scientific methods.
If white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) and Taura virus (TSV) are found in Penaeus vannamei seedlings without SPF, it means that this shrimp can only be sure that it does not have WSSV and TSV, while other viruses such as IHHNV, MBV and BP have not been detected, so it is impossible to determine whether it carries pathogens.
Therefore, SPF is by no means synonymous with highly healthy Penaeus vannamei, but only means that it is safe to some extent. Under the current seedling raising conditions and operating procedures in China, it is difficult to produce shrimp seedlings without WSSV.
