How to keep a pet crocodile

Open food problem

After rest, most crocodiles will eat normally when there is no problem in various objective environments such as water quality. You can choose to place suckling rats on land, which is almost the favorite food of crocodiles. The fish loach crocodile in the water will be happy to catch it, but its predation ability is really not very good.

Environment and water temperature

The sun is very important. Generally, once a week 1~2 times, UVB irradiation at other times can basically ensure the health of crocodiles. You can take it when you are in the sun ~ take it outdoors to enjoy the sunshine. It is very cold in winter in the north, so it is better to use UVB. Just keep the water temperature at 26-32 degrees. At this time, the crocodile's metabolism will be faster, making it grow rapidly. Remember, Cayman and most crocodiles don't hibernate. In fact, only Chinese alligators and Mississippi crocodiles hibernate.

Crocodile food

Generally speaking, beef is a better choice. Pork contains a lot of fat and is not suitable. Of course, if you can, you can always feed the whole animal: mice, hamsters, rabbits, chickens and birds are all good, and of course the cost is not bad. Usually, recipes like fish and loach are perfect. If you don't feed the flesh and blood for a long time, adding some calcium powder appropriately will play a considerable role. Young crocodiles can also eat insects such as crickets and grasshoppers.

Prevention and treatment of crocodile diseases

Crocodiles are survival experts with strong adaptability and resistance, but they will still get sick if the water quality is poor or they stay dirty for a long time. The most common skin disease is that the skin will fall off the size of a grain of rice, but basically it will heal as long as it is exposed to more sun. If you really want to use medicine, just press it with potassium permanganate powder or oxytetracycline powder. There is also an eye disease, which is likely to be an eye disease when you buy it, and severe suppuration will be more serious. Treatment with ciprofloxacin eye drops, adding appropriate amount of salt to reclaimed water! So sunshine and water quality are the best weapons to prevent crocodiles from getting sick! ! !

The growth and body shape of crocodiles

Crocodiles grow very rapidly in the first few years after birth (the first four years, if I remember correctly), and then they keep growing, but the change is not so obvious. Crocodiles will control their growth rate according to the size of the environment, so the bigger the environment, the faster the growth. It's very inhuman to restrain the growth of crocodiles, but if you insist on doing so, I still want to remind you that in the end, maybe your crocodile will deform its spine because it doesn't have enough space for a long time. Domestic adult caimans can reach about 1.5m at most, excluding free-range ones, and females will be smaller. At this time, although the frequency of eating is much lower ~ but the amount of food will increase sharply, there is no problem with a pound or two of meat, so be prepared!

Feeding frequency and mode

To be sure, the bigger the crocodile, the lower the frequency of eating. Larvae need to eat every day, usually once every 2~3 days when it is about 50CM or more. If it is full, it will stop eating. Feeding on land is a better way. Basically, these are not problems, but some crocodiles are not very sensitive to the food thrown into the water. Maybe it's a habit problem.

Crocodiles can wear gloves at first, but they don't need gloves below 40CM, and the damage will not be great. There are many ways to catch it, but one thing must be paid attention to, don't show your hands on both sides of the crocodile's face, so you will be very fragile. Start right above the crocodile and grab the back of the front leg! Another method is to start from the crocodile's back and slowly move forward to the bottom of its stomach. Lift it up! Remember to grab its tail at any time, the crocodile may suddenly get out of your control.

Because of the high mortality and low survival rate of young crocodiles under/kloc-0, the key technology of crocodile breeding is the feeding of young crocodiles.

1, pay attention to cleaning. I won't say much about this, just how to clean it up.

2, the bait should be properly matched and the feeding amount should be reasonable. The newly hatched young crocodiles have poor physiological regulation ability, and many organs are still in the process of development and perfection in morphology, so they have special requirements for food. In addition to fish and shrimp, the feed of young crocodiles is also mixed with vitamins and other substances that promote the rapid growth of young crocodiles. Young crocodiles are greedy and should not be fed too much feed. On average, young crocodiles in Thailand only feed two small fish at a time, and feed them every other day 1 time.

3. Reduce man-made interference and prevent young crocodiles from being frightened. The young crocodile is very timid. Once stimulated, it will often cause mental stress, make muscles tremble, and then induce physiological disorders, leading to death. Therefore, the breeding pool of young crocodiles should be quiet.

4. Prevent the invasion of mosquitoes, flies and rats. The baby crocodile breeding pool can be covered with mesh cloth to prevent the enemy from hurting.

answer

2011-09-1218: 205 kinds of high incidence.

1, simple, when the mouth is closed, the teeth of the upper and lower jaws can't bite normally, the teeth protrude, the spine arches, and the mouth and body fester.

2. The Yangtze River has a special preference for snails and fish, but it is prone to malnutrition, which is not good for gonadal development. 3. Too much fat will affect the digestion, absorption and utilization of protein.

4. The larval Yangtze River is easily disturbed and causes endocrine abnormalities, and often dies suddenly when severely stimulated.

5, overfeeding leads to gout, and the symptoms are refusal to be depressed and numbness in the hind legs.

Thai crocodiles and Caymans have a wide range of food requirements, and they will eat anything, dead or alive.

Young crocodiles need to be fed to mice. Because of insufficient absorption of calcium, young crocodiles are often prone to nail loss and soft back nails. If you only eat fish and loach, you should bask in the sun to help your skin synthesize more calcium to absorb, or put calcium tablets and vitamins in your mouth.

Some people who keep crocodiles can't bear to feed mice, just feed some pork and so on. I have nothing to say about this situation. The younger the crocodile, the more it needs the nutrition of whole food!

When crocodiles grow up, the excess fat caused by overfeeding of mice will be a big problem, especially in the Yangtze River, which will increase the hibernating mortality. But how to calculate the excess fat? On the surface, we can't see it. It's impossible to take it to the hospital for X-ray, right? Therefore, it depends on the owner's own familiarity with the nutritional value of food to sum up and judge.

Analysis of Nutritional Value of Crocodile Feed

(1) fish

All kinds of marine fish and freshwater fish can be used as the main feed for crocodiles. Fish contains more protein, minerals and vitamins, and is a nutritious feed material.

However, many fish, especially freshwater fish, contain thiaminase in gills and viscera, which can destroy vitamin B 1 in feed and crocodiles. If you eat this fish raw for a long time, it will easily lead to the lack of vitamin B 1 in crocodiles, so you must pay attention to supplementing vitamin B 1.

Commonly used fish are loach, scaly fish, yellow herring, gourd seed fish, bearded fish and fresh marine fish. Green scale fish, yellow herring and gourd seed fish should not be used in the breeding period of crocodiles because they contain more fat and are not palatable. Crocodiles should not be fed too much, and it is best to mix them with other animal feeds.

Marine fish can be eaten raw, and the feeding effect is better. Fish can be used as the main feed for crocodiles in farming. At present, the aquaculture industry advocates feeding crocodiles with fresh live fish. Because live fish is nutritious, it can also stimulate the appetite of crocodiles and increase their exercise in the water. If there are no live fish, you can feed fresh dead fish, but crocodiles should be domesticated in advance to adapt to this food. Dead fish must be fresh, and it is forbidden to feed poisonous fish.

It is also forbidden to feed crocodiles with spoiled fish, because spoiled fish will produce histamine, which is the product of protein decomposition of fish. Crocodiles will accumulate a large amount of histamine, which will cause crocodile poisoning to a certain extent. In addition, fish tissues contain a lot of unsaturated fatty acids, which are easy to be oxidized and deteriorated, so fish should pay attention to prevent unsaturated fatty acids from being oxidized during transportation and storage. Crocodiles will cause fatty diseases if they eat oxidized and rancid unsaturated fatty acids for a long time, so we must pay attention to it when using it.

(2) Other small animals

In the wild, crocodiles can often prey on some small animals, such as chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits, sheep, etc., as feed sources; In the case of artificial breeding, it can be trained to eat some dried cochineal corpses of small animals and fur animals.

In addition, you can also use some leftovers from animal slaughter. Health and quarantine should be paid attention to when using this feed, and it is forbidden to use small animals carrying infectious diseases to feed crocodiles. Then, when using animal slaughter leftovers, animal glands contain some hormones, and crocodiles in breeding period are forbidden to feed, so as not to affect their reproductive performance. Crocodiles are fierce carnivores. They prefer to eat live animals. Generally, healthy living animals can be thrown directly at them.

(3) Pork, beef and mutton. Usually used in the meat of large animals. The protein content of fresh animal meat is relatively high, about 17% ~ 2 1%, and the amino acids are relatively complete, especially the proportion of essential amino acids is balanced.

Eye problems:

I think the main prevention is water quality and bacterial infection. It shouldn't be a problem to be careful when buying. Now get down to business, the main problems of eyes are purulent eyes, blurred eyes, and some small crocodiles have white impurities flowing out of their eyes. The treatment that can be considered now is eye drops, and the eye anti-inflammatory water used by ordinary people will do. Like chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin, crotonic acid, norfloxacin sodium, these can be used. Take the medicine three times a day until the crocodile's eyes get better. Personally, I think the effect is good if the number of times is more. After all, crocodiles have to go into the water.

Skin problems;

The skin problem is mainly the problem of phosphorus falling off. Some crocodiles will have local small scales falling off because of water quality bacteria and other problems. The treatment is still recommended not to use drugs, to get more sunshine and to change water frequently. If it is necessary to use medicine seriously, then apply oxytetracycline powder or potassium permanganate to the crocodile scales. Sunbathing is essential. If there is no condition, you'd better give it a UVB.

Domestication of crocodiles

Crocodiles, like people, have different personalities. Domestication is the most troublesome and time-consuming problem in the whole breeding process of crocodiles. Crocodile seedlings bite people in self-defense and fear of being hurt. What we need to do is to observe more. Through observation, we will know more about our baby and know when to touch it and when not! Domesticating crocodiles has become the biggest headache for crocodile lovers. Crocodile seedlings attack people only because they are not used to touching humans. When they get used to it, they lose interest in your hands. Domesticating crocodiles is a very contradictory thing. For fear of being bitten, some friends wear gloves to catch and domesticate them. It doesn't feel very good, because our hands with gloves and without gloves taste different. It will still attack you when you touch it without gloves.

But it hurts without gloves. This is the contradiction. When you first catch a crocodile, put it in your hand and touch its chin with your fingers. This will make it more relaxed and stabilize its grumpy mood, which is conducive to later domestication. If the crocodile won't let you catch it, you can cover its head with a towel so that it can't see anything, and it will be quieter. When catching a crocodile, you should grasp the tail heel with your left hand, the right hand from the crocodile abdomen to the front, and then use the middle finger of your right hand. After that, there is a long domestication, which needs a long and uninterrupted time. In short, we should observe more, spend more time, be patient, know more and get started. The time of domestication depends on the crocodile's character. Some people are born docile and only need 1 month, but some people are born cruel. Hehe, it will take about half a year to domesticate successfully.

The above is my experience, not very scientific, because I am not a professional. Many friends have their own ways to domesticate crocodiles, and everyone can try. For example, touch the crocodile's mouth with something soft and let it bite hard until it is tired. Crocodiles are the most thrilling when they attack people, because the speed is amazing and sometimes they often scare us. Some friends don't touch and domesticate because crocodiles don't let them come near and are afraid of being bitten. This can never be domesticated successfully, because we raise crocodiles, so it is doomed that domestication is difficult and needs to be paid.

Everyone should have thought about this before raising crocodiles. Biting people is also common. Crocodiles are crocodiles after all. Crocodiles are all people with character. We raise them because we appreciate their extraordinary temperament, fierce wildness, extraordinary explosive power and attack speed, as well as their strange way of eating. But after raising it, you are destined to spend a lot of time on crocodiles. I don't want to go anywhere after school. Go home and train crocodiles! Hmm. How interesting

Crocodiles are sensitive to space requirements. The so-called "inhuman breeding" means keeping crocodiles in small fish tanks for a long time, which will do great harm to their physical functions.

Crocodiles live on land and water, and sometimes they spend much longer on land than in water, so they need to set up land.

Young crocodiles have higher requirements for water quality. Poor water quality will cause scaling, and crocodiles are not sensitive to water quality requirements when they grow up. Changing water for crocodiles is a very painful thing. There are two ways to solve the pain: cultivating green algae in water or using a filter.
