Characteristic towns should adhere to the principle of "building towns by production, leading towns by production, and prospering towns by production", and promote the development of urban resources to urban industries, urban industries to urban economies, and urban economies to towns, so as to finally realize the coordinated development of production and cities and provide impetus and support for the sustained and healthy development of characteristic towns in China.
Second, the control of land should be strict, and the more it is used, the better. In view of the problems existing in the allocation of construction land for characteristic towns, Lv Wen City, Lv Wei put forward suggestions on the use of land for characteristic towns. Through six countermeasures, such as intensive use of land resources and revitalization of inefficient idle construction land, it provided reference ideas for the development of characteristic towns in various places.
Third, weigh the interests of all parties. The government should fully weigh the interests of all parties, give strong support to developers and operators, clarify powers and responsibilities and strengthen supervision. In the process of cooperation with developers, we should have a long-term vision, and from the perspective of local development, we should not seek temporary local interests or consider long-term development.
Fourth, constantly innovate the management mechanism. In the development and operation of characteristic towns, the government plays a more important role in management and support. Mainly reflected in infrastructure construction, public service facilities construction, support policy guarantee, urban marketing and public management.

Up to now, hundreds of characteristic towns such as Lv Wen Town, Art Town, Sports Town, Yang Kang Town, Hot Spring Town, Ecological Town, Agricultural Town, Music Town, Vocational Education Town and Ancient Town have been built, including Gubeikou Town, Fragrant Flowers and Fruits Town, Gu Yan Painting Town, Guanqiao New Material Town, Baofeng Zen Rhyme Town and Yincun Vocational Education Town.
