The purpose of the well:
As an adverb, 1.well means "good", which is the same as the adjective good. Try to compare the following sentences:
This is a good car. This is a good car.
It works well. (Adverb) It runs well.
She speaks English very well. She speaks English fluently.
She speaks English very well. She speaks English fluently.
Note that well is an adverb, which is placed after the notional verb and cannot be placed between the verb and the noun; Good is an adjective, placed after a conjunction or before a noun.
2.well can also mean adverb "quite, very".

3.well can also be used as an adjective, meaning "healthy" (= healthy).
