The general requirement is self-cultivation. When buying piglets from the market, you should know the local epidemic situation and epidemic prevention. When buying piglets from other pig farms, it is necessary to understand the immune health care procedures of the pig farm and obtain relevant information. Try not to go to other pig farms to buy pigs except in special circumstances. It is reported that when pigs are imported from two farms, the cost of medicines will increase by 20%. When selecting piglets, choose piglets that are lively, healthy and disease-free and have little difference in weight. The quality of piglets is closely related to the weight gain rate, feed utilization rate and morbidity during fattening period, which is the decisive factor in pig production. ① Piglets with excellent cross combinations, large weight, liveliness and health are selected for fattening. Piglets weigh more than 20 kg from birth to weaning, which belong to well-developed individuals and have high feed utilization rate. The sooner the slaughter weight (90 kg) is reached, the higher the feed utilization rate and the better the carcass quality. ② Pigs with long waist, thin back and high lean meat rate should be selected for fattening; ③ Piglets with thick tube circumference should be selected. Generally, the thickness of tube circumference is proportional to the thickness of bone, with large bone, large tendon attachment area and high lean meat rate; ④ Piglets with evenly distributed ribs (chest width and bust circumference) and deep carcasses should be selected, which have less feed consumption, thin back and high lean meat rate; ⑤ Piglets whose hindquarters are wider and taller than their forequarters should be selected. The hindquarters are wider than the forequarters, indicating that the legs and hips are developed and lean meat is abundant. The hindquarters are higher than the forequarters, and the back is thin. ⑥ The dorsal line is arched, the abdominal line is straight, and the body is compact. When walking, muscle activity can be seen from the abdominal ribs to the abdomen, and the abdomen is opened after eating; ⑦ A thick tail should be selected, and the thickness of the tail is directly proportional to the periphery of the bone and tube to produce thinner carcass fat; In addition, the strength of tail rolling is a symbol of pig health; At the same time, it is better to choose beautiful and shiny skin and coat of piglets. Piglets with the appearance of lean pigs and obvious characteristics of lean pigs, such as body length, back arch, flat abdomen and fat buttocks, are the dominant genetic manifestations of hybrid piglets, and their lean meat rate is 2.6%. Piglets with fast growth and development in the same litter or symmetrical body structure can also be selected.
Pay attention to the following situations when buying piglets. You should refuse to buy piglets if any of the following situations occur.
(1) Fasting pigs and piglets are not satisfied with their stomachs, indicating that they eat less or don't eat. Usually, in order to get more income, the seller will try to let piglets eat more concentrated feed to increase their weight before they go on the market. Piglets with empty stomachs and scarce feces are mostly sick piglets.
(2) High-temperature pigs buy pigs by touching their ears, most of which are hot pigs. Piglets with fever are generally slow-witted, their conjunctiva is flushed and they can't afford to lie down. They stood up and trembled, and their body temperature exceeded 40.5℃, indicating that this pig must not be bought during the onset.
(3) Diarrhea piglets diarrhea can be seen around the anus and the upper parts of the two hind legs stained with thin feces. If there is a lot of thin feces, it means that pig diarrhea is serious, especially the feces have a bad smell, and they are generally sick pigs.
(4) Piglet dehydration is usually characterized by slow response, dry stool, yellow urine, sunken eye socket, lying but not standing, muscle tremor and normal or low body temperature. Most of these pigs are shipped by sellers from other places, and the boats are bumping and the piglets are dehydrated because of insufficient drinking water. This kind of pig grows slowly and gets sick easily.
(5) Piglets that don't clip their ears don't clip their ears with pliers, indicating that they have not been vaccinated by veterinarians, and this kind of pig is prone to illness.
