What is the concept of mental health? What is the standard of mental health?

People often quote the definition of health put forward in the Charter of the World Health Organization: health is "a state of physical, mental and social adaptation, not just the absence of disease or infirmity". This definition not only points out the important position of psychology and society in health, but also clearly puts forward the standard of health. In other words, health not only refers to the absence of disease, but also includes physical, psychological and social adaptability.

What is mental health? At the Third International Conference on Mental Health, mental health was defined as "developing one's mental state to the best within the scope of not contradicting others' psychology physically, intellectually and emotionally". This definition emphasizes that if a person is in line with the psychological development level of most peers compared with others, then this person's psychology is healthy, and vice versa.

We believe that mental health refers to a state well adapted to life. This includes two meanings: first, it refers to the state of mental health, in which individuals are not only in good self-condition, but also live in harmony with society; The second is to maintain mental health and reduce behavioral problems and mental illness. In addition, mental health is divided into narrow sense and broad sense. The narrow sense of mental health, the main purpose is to prevent psychological barriers or behavioral problems; Mental health in a broad sense aims at promoting people's psychological adjustment and developing greater psychological efficiency, that is, people live healthily in the environment, maintain and constantly improve their mental health level, so as to better adapt to social life and make effective contributions to society and mankind. Obviously, for the majority of primary and secondary school students, mental health should be generalized mental health.

The standard of mental health

Normal and abnormal in psychology are relative, and there is no absolute boundary. The difference between the two is often only in quantity, so there is no fixed and universally applicable standard. In addition, the relativity of mental health also shows that the individual's mental health state is not static, but dynamic.

Because of the relativity of mental health, in psychology, the average or ideal state is often used to explain the mental health of individuals. General state means that as long as the average person is in a normal distribution field, which is similar to that of most people, he thinks that his mental state is normal and healthy. Ideal state means that mental health is an ideal state that people pursue in consciousness, that is, a state that one hopes to achieve. If it is achieved, it is normal and healthy; If it cannot be achieved, there will be obstacles.

Due to the diversity of events and activities encountered by individuals of different ages in life, study and work, the measurement of mental health has different requirements at different ages. According to our investigation, for students in school situations, such events or activities are mainly learning, interpersonal relationships, self-related activities and social adaptation.
