Threats to river health
The biggest threat to the health of rivers in China comes from water pollution. According to the official report, among the 408 monitoring sections of seven major water systems (Pearl River, Yangtze River, Yellow River, Huaihe River, Liaohe River, Haihe River and Songhua River) 197 rivers in 2006, the section proportions of I-V water quality and inferior V water quality were 4%, 23%, 19% and 23% respectively. Among them, the water quality of Pearl River and Yangtze River is good, Songhua River, Yellow River and Huaihe River are moderately polluted, and Liaohe River and Haihe River are heavily polluted. The main pollution indicators are permanganate index, petroleum and ammonia nitrogen. Up to 26% of the "inferior V water" refers to the water body that basically loses its use function, can not be used as drinking water source, industrial water or agricultural water, and has no landscape value. Of course, such a river or reach is very unhealthy. Therefore, it is no doubt logical for China to focus on pollution control and emission reduction at present.
