Tip:
Sometimes hamsters pretend to be dead, which is a self-protection behavior to avoid danger. Therefore, when the owner found that the hamster did not move, it could not be directly judged as dead. He can move it to a safe environment and lure it with his favorite food. If it is playing dead, it will get up and eat at once.
How to raise hamsters?
Prepare basic supplies:
1. Cage: After the hamster buys home, prepare a cage for it first. Because hamsters are smaller, they don't need a big cage, just about 30 cm.
2, food basin: ordinary small containers can be, as long as it is not easy to knock over, the edge should not be too high, otherwise the hamster can not climb in. Commonly used containers: glass ashtray, soy sauce tray, various small bowls, microwave oven box, small fresh-keeping box.
3, drinking fountains: drinking fountains are generally designed with stainless steel beads at the front end. Pay attention to test whether there is water leakage when buying. You can't put water in the bowl directly, because hamsters will get wet when drinking water, and they are easy to catch cold and get sick.
4. Toilet: Generally, the plastic box containing cat litter is a relatively simple toilet. It is in line with personal hygiene habits to take out or replace all the caked cat litter every day. Some hamsters can be used, but they are not necessary.
5. Bathroom: Some hamsters bathe in the toilet with cat litter. Although it's unsanitary, it's a hamster's hobby and doesn't need a shower room. But for a clean hamster, the owner should buy it a bathroom, put bath sand on it, and let the hamster roll freely.
6, running wheel: wild hamsters have to run 20 kilometers a day, so exercise is very important for hamsters. Without enough exercise, hamsters will be stressed and bite the cage. At the same time, hamsters are prone to overnutrition and obesity. Therefore, the careful owner should give the hamster a running wheel, pay attention when buying, and choose a seamless running wheel, so that the hamster will not be easily injured.
7. Wood chips: There are many materials to choose from, and most people will choose wood chips because they are clean and easy to buy.
8. Grinding items: Hamster's teeth will continue to grow, so you need to use a grinding bar to grind off the long teeth. Many hamsters grind their teeth in other ways, such as biting cages. Don't worry too much when you don't use the molar stone/grinding rod you provided.
9. Cabin: Cabin is made of ceramics, wood, grass and plastic. Hamsters like these materials very much, because hamsters are animals who love to make holes. If possible, hamsters should be equipped with a hut and can make it by themselves.
The optimum temperature for feeding is 20-28℃;
Hamsters are afraid of heat. In summer, the sawdust in the cage should not be spread too thick, so it should be changed frequently. You can put a small stone to help dissipate heat. It is best not to turn on the air conditioner, because the temperature difference between turning on the air conditioner and turning off the air conditioner will be too great. Hamsters are very sensitive to temperature and easy to catch cold.
Winter: Hamsters placed outdoors will pretend to hibernate because they are too cold. Spread more mats such as sawdust and equip hamsters with wooden or thatched houses to keep warm. Or give hamsters more cotton to make their own nests, or absorbent cotton, preferably natural cotton. The easiest way is to pack the whole cage into a carton, but pay attention to ventilation. Don't make nests for them made of cotton thread. Although it is warm, hamsters will bite off cotton products and get into it to sleep, so some unbroken cotton threads can easily cause hamsters to suffocate.
Attention should be paid to when feeding:
Hamsters eat whole grains (rice, wheat, noodles, bread, biscuits; Cookies should have no additives), fruits and vegetables (including mangoes, cabbages, greens and carrots).
Never give hamsters tap water, which may cause diarrhea. It is recommended to feed it with pure water.
Hamsters need drinking fountains. If the containers are full, little hamsters may fall in.
There is also a vegetable basin in it, which is usually five centimeters big.
Hamsters should be fed once every 2-3 hours, defecate once, and feed hamsters regularly every day. When hamsters look alike, the frequency of feeding and defecating will gradually decrease. Just stick to it for a few days, and it will be easy in the future.
Nine-day-old hamsters will eat rat food at first. You can give them some soft food in rat food, such as oatmeal.
When hamsters open their eyes, they basically drink water, eat well and take care of themselves. At this time, all hamsters can basically survive.
