Spring, alias "Fairy of Spring", is a canvas oil painting created by French neoclassical painter Angel from 1830 to 1856. It is now in the Musee d 'Orsay, France.
The painting uses soft and changeable colors and soft curves to show the classical beauty of women's bodies. The young naked woman holds a clay pot in her hand and lets the contents pour out slowly. Slightly bent knees and the muscle curve shown by lifting the clay pot create an elegant, pure and refined aesthetic feeling.
Angel (Ingres,1780-1867), a student of David, is a representative painter of neoclassicism. Angel pursues "absolute beauty" and thinks that the art of ancient Greece and Raphael is a perfect model, and that the formal beauty of modeling is the basis of painting.
He respects the principles of classical art, emphasizes the principle of rationality, attaches importance to the role of sketches and lines, ignores the expressive role of colors, and opposes the direct expression of feelings and imagination. His masterpieces include Louis XIII's Oath, Homer's Praise, Statue of Madame Revere, Maid-in-waiting, Harman, Fountain and so on.

Creative background:
In the eyes of western classical artists, female images are the objects of their love. Venus de Milo is regarded as an eternal classic, representing the Venus of love and beauty. Even if the arm is broken, it is still a kind of beauty. Titian created the Venus of Urbino, and leonardo da vinci created many female images, which represented the typical images of classical art ... Angel didn't have many subjects, and he even painted the same theme over and over again, using the same shape-women.
During the period of 1830, Angel began to draft the work "Spring" during his stay in Florence, Italy, but it was not completed. Until 1856, at the age of 76, he completed this painting with the assistance of his assistants Alexander Legfi and gene paul Etienne Balcer.
Angel's original idea of "spring" is a kind of "Venus" style, imitating the wishes of Italian masters when painting Venus, trying to simplify the image.
