The Centre cooperates multilaterally with the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Li Ka-shing Foundation. The Chinese University of Hong Kong regularly sends Hong Kong and international experts to our hospital for consultation, diagnosis, academic lectures and scientific research cooperation, and has set up distance education with the Eye Hospital of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The center has world-class modern ophthalmic medical equipment worth nearly 45 million, 9 specialties and 10 modern specialized laboratories. Cooperate with the Chinese University of Hong Kong to carry out clinical and basic research, and at the same time train doctoral students and master students.
In recent years, under the leadership of Professor Lin Shunchao, director of the center, the hospital construction has made remarkable achievements. In 2002, it successfully passed the acceptance of the national "2 1 1" project, was awarded the master's degree in ophthalmology in 2003, and jointly trained doctoral students with the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2004. In 2005, it was approved as the national clinical drug test base; In 2005, it became one of the three test sites of ICO ophthalmologists in China (Shantou, Beijing and Guangzhou). At the same time, the center is also the Shantou office of the "Healthy Express" vision restoration project in China, the base of the "Healthy Express" microsurgery training center, and the Shantou office of the "Project Vision" China Poverty Alleviation and Literacy Campaign. In recent years, he has undertaken 4 projects of National Natural Science Foundation, international horizontal cooperation project 1, provincial and ministerial scientific research project 1, municipal scientific research project1,won the first prize of municipal scientific and technological progress1,and published more than 100 academic papers.
While the center is developing rapidly, it also attaches great importance to medical poverty alleviation and strives to create a dedication culture. At present, the hospital undertakes the medical work of four poverty alleviation projects, namely "Attention is the Trend", "Project Vision", "Health Express Microsurgery Training Center" and "China Health Express Project". The poverty alleviation footprint covers the whole country 16 provinces, and there are more than 40,000 cases of cataract surgery for medical poverty alleviation. A distance education network covering all 16 provinces has been opened, and nearly 1,000 primary medical staff have been trained, which has made positive contributions to the cause of vision rehabilitation in China and won the support of Vice Premier Wu Yi and other countries. In addition, the center successfully advocated voluntary corneal donation, and became a "sister bank" with the Hong Kong Eye Bank, becoming the first voluntary corneal donation organization in China.
