Chapter II How do different theories explain abnormal phenomena? The fourth quarter psychology class notes from the perspective of abnormal cognition

Chapter two? How do different theories explain anomalies?

The fourth quarter? Cognitive angle

First, the representative figures of cognitive theory

? Albert Ellis

(19 13-2007)- Rational Emotion Therapy

? Aaron T.

Baker (192 1- now)

Second, how does cognitive theory explain psychological abnormality?

(1) It is not the negative event itself or the past experience that determines the psychological abnormality, but whether a person's view on this matter is reasonable or not. Unreasonable cognition leads to negative emotions, which leads to abnormal behavior.

Rational emotional therapy in Ellis' ABC theory, in which

A = activation events = negative events encountered by individuals; Personal behavior or attitude

B = belief = individual's cognition and belief in A is the root cause of C.

C = Consequence = The result of an individual's reaction or emotion may be healthy or unhealthy.

(2) existing cognitive problems

Ellis:

1. Absolutely

2. Overgeneralization

3. Terrible/disastrous

Baker

1. Either/or.

2. catastrophic

? Change performance expectations

? Change negative evaluation

? Change ownership

? Change long-term beliefs

Fourth, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)-irrational thinking vs rational thinking

Irrational belief → rational belief.

Characteristics of rational thinking:

(1) Logical thinking: Being able to correctly grasp the causal relationship.

(2) Analytical thinking: based on facts and data.

(3) dialectical critical thinking

(4) quantitative thinking

★ Common irrational beliefs

That is illogical "dogma": catchy and easy to spread. But it has logical fallacies such as generalization and absolutism, including superstition, mysticism and conspiracy theory.

Common irrational "dogma": there are no parents who don't love their children; Beating is kissing, scolding is love and so on.
