SCI/SSCI contains 455 psychological journals.
Author Zhu Yinmei, Liu Xia, Miao Li,
According to incomplete statistics, there are about 20 kinds of psychology journals in China at present, of which 5 are core journals, and none of them have entered SCI/SSCI/EI, which is related to China's being a big country in journals (in 2003, China ranked third in the world with 9,029 kinds of journals, and in 2002, according to statistics, China's journals were included in SCI for 6 1 species; SSCI includes three types; EI contains 107 species), which is extremely disproportionate. Therefore, this paper uses bibliometrics to study the psychological journals included in SCI and SSCI to reveal their basic situation and characteristics, and at the same time recommends a number of excellent international psychological journals for the reference of relevant periodical workers and psychologists.
1, data sources and statistical methods
The statistical data of this paper is obtained by searching the large authoritative retrieval systems SCI (Science Citation Index) and s SCI (Social Science Citation Index) published by institute for scientific information in May 2004. SC 1 is divided into CD version and extended version, as well as SCI and SCIE(SCI? Expanded) said that the difference lies only in the number of periodicals included, and SCIE has a large number of periodicals, including the CD version of SCI. This paper takes SCIE as the research object, and the database contains 6 106 academic journals of 170 disciplines, including 62 psychological journals, accounting for 1.02%. SSCI has collected 1804 sociology journals from more than 50 disciplines around the world, including 437 psychology journals, accounting for 24.22%. JCR (Journal Citation Report) is also an important quantitative tool for evaluating journals edited and published by ISI. In this paper, JCR online database is used to find the publishing country, language, journal impact factor (IF) and other indicators of psychological journals included in SCIE/SSCI, and detailed analysis and research are carried out item by item.
2. Statistical results and analysis
2. 1 serial number and cross serial number analysis
SCIE source journals include 62 psychological journals, 1 subject, and 44 journals are duplicated with SSCI source journals. 44 interdisciplinary journals have the following characteristics: the publishing countries involve 7 countries, mainly the United States, Britain and the Netherlands; There are 40 English periodicals and 4 multilingual periodicals; Quarterly and bimonthly are more common; There are 35 journals whose impact factors (IF) are above 1, and the maximum value is 9.896, which is the Yearbook of Psychology published in the United States.
2.2 Publishing country (region)
There are 455 kinds of psychological journals from 23 countries, including 294 American journals (64.62%), 84 British journals (18.46%), 23 German journals (5.05%) and 4 Canadian journals (0.88%). Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Denmark, Belgium, Mexico, Colombia, Turkey, South Africa and New Zealand have 1 species (each accounting for 0.22%). It can be seen that the mainstream journals of world psychology are basically edited and published by developed countries in Europe and America.
2.3 language
There are 455 psychological journals covering 7 languages: English 409 (89.9%), multilingual 27 (5.9%), German 13 (2.9%), French and Spanish 2 (0.4% each), Japanese and Russian 1 0 (0.2% each). Whether to publish in English is the primary feature to evaluate whether a periodical can reach the international standard.
2.4 Influencing factors
Dynamic changes of 455 psychological journals collected by SCI and SSCI in 2004 in recent two years. In 2002, the maximum value was 8.73, which was Behavioral and Brain Science published in the United States. The highest value in 2003 was 10.63 (an increase of 1.9 over the previous year). The periodical with the minimum value of 0.05 is the Journal of Neuropsychology published in French in France. Compared with the previous two years, except for 24 periodicals in 2003, 239 periodicals increased year by year, 194 periodicals decreased year by year, and 1 periodical remained unchanged.
3 Conclusion and thinking
3. 1 Psychology is an interdisciplinary subject, but it is obviously biased towards social science.
The above-mentioned interdisciplinary journals of SCIE and SSCI psychology mainly focus on experimental psychology, multidisciplinary psychology, clinical psychology, applied psychology, biological psychology, analytical psychology and developmental psychology. This shows that psychology, as an interdisciplinary subject between natural science and social science, also conforms to the development trend of psychology (early self-discipline, later humanistic orientation, and now the two are integrated, and humanistic psychology is closer to people's real psychology).
3.2 The rapid development of modern psychology will prompt the rethinking of subject classification in China. Interdisciplinary science refers to six disciplines, such as psychology, ecology and management, which are formed by the combination and mutual infiltration of more than two disciplines. As early as 1970s, modern interdisciplinary science has been regarded as a major discipline abroad. For example, the United States divides disciplines into seven categories: life science, psychology, materials science, environmental science, mathematics and computer science, engineering science and social science, which is the first national standard for discipline classification in China. It divides disciplines into five categories and has 58 first-class disciplines. Although a few interdisciplinary subjects, such as management, have been brought into the first-class discipline, many emerging disciplines with strong cross-cutting and long span still find it difficult to find their own position. Another example is China Library Classification (4th edition) published by 1999, which classifies psychology as philosophy and religion, and Kotu Law published by 1994 (3rd edition) which classifies psychology as philosophy and biological sciences. Another example is the Survey of China Core Journals published in 2000, which classified psychology as philosophy, and China Journal of Mental Health was also found in the medical and health category. In addition, the Citation Report of China Sci-tech Journals published in 2003 classified psychology as neuropsychiatric medicine. In order to solve this chaotic situation and better integrate with the international community, it is urgent to establish a new discipline classification standard in China, so as to make the discipline classification more perfect and standardized and promote the healthy development of these emerging disciplines.
3.3 The development direction of psychological journals in China.
Most of the 455 psychological journals are published by the United States, Britain and Germany, and English journals account for 89.9%. The publishing countries of 44 cross-cutting periodicals and 28 most internationally influential periodicals (see table) are mainly the United States, Britain and the Netherlands. Western developed countries in Europe and America are in a leading position in psychological research.
There are more than 20 domestic psychological journals (including 5 core journals and 7 Chinese social science citation index CSSCI). There are only three psychological journals in CJCR, among which IF in 2002 (namely, China Journal of Clinical Psychology 0.735, chinese mental health journal 0.732, and Psychology Journal 0.283) is far behind the similar SCI/SSCI psychological journals in the same period: (1) The average value of SCI/SSCI psychological journals in 2002 is/kloc-. (2) China Journal of Clinical Psychology ranked 259th among 423 SCI/SSCI psychological journals in descending order of IF value in 2002 (it can be said that there are 165 smaller SCI/SSCI psychological journals); The Journal of Psychology ranks 374th (there are 50 SCSCI psychology journals smaller than it). China's independent classification of psychological science, innovative research, and the quantity and quality of journals (some journals related to brain research can be classified into this category because of unreasonable classification) should be in line with international standards. Therefore, China psychological journals should actively learn from the successful experiences at home and abroad, and start from the aspects of "modernization of journal publishing, internationalization of editorial team, scientificization of topic selection, standardization of papers and English language (Psychology and Psychological Science has been ahead), and proper positioning of readers. The Chinese Psychological Society joined the International Psychological Federation in July 1980 and became its 44th national member, marking the beginning of China's psychology going to the world. Psychology in China has developed very rapidly in the past 20 years, especially in the last two years, when the training courses for psychological counselors are vigorous, the psychological consciousness has been deeply rooted in people's hearts. Especially in August 2004, the 28th International Conference on Psychology was held in Beijing, China, indicating that the development of China's psychology has been recognized by the world and that China's psychology is going to the world. As the leading journal of psychology in China, Journal of Psychology is the only journal that accepts both Chinese and English papers and English references, and it also has a certain influence in the world. The abstracts of his articles have been published in the United States (psychological abstracts) and psychological science CDs, and are being shortlisted for journals included in SCI and SSCI. A scientific, objective, fair and reasonable quantitative level index is widely adopted in the world. Both journals are included in SCI/SSCI, which is quite different). The following table lists 28 psychological journals with the most international influence IF≥3 in 2003, and recommends them to periodical workers and readers, so as to strive for China psychological journals and China psychological papers to enter the international stage of SCI and SSCI as soon as possible and truly realize the world.
