CHARLS aims to collect a set of high-quality micro-data representing families and individuals of middle-aged and elderly people aged 45 and above in China, so as to analyze the problem of population aging in China, promote interdisciplinary research on aging, and provide a more scientific basis for China to formulate and improve relevant policies. The national baseline survey was carried out on 20 1 1, followed up every two years, and the data results were made public to the academic community free of charge one year after the survey.
The Longitudinal Study on Health and Retirement in China (CHARLS) is a large-scale interdisciplinary research project sponsored by the National Development Research Institute of Peking University and implemented by the Social Science Research Center of China. It is a major project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The project leader is a professor of economics at the National Development Research Institute of Peking University.
