The style of the beacon tower we see on the Great Wall was not the same at first, but it was only applied to the Great Wall in the Ming Dynasty, because it came from the double-layer hollow enemy tower created by Qi Jiguang during the coastal anti-Japanese war.
After the implementation of the maritime ban in the Ming Dynasty, the maritime smuggling trade was rampant. In order to strengthen coastal defense, the Ming government built the Great Wall along the coast of Zhejiang-54 acropolis, 99 cities, 353 inspection departments, 997 beacon towers, 365,438+03 docks, 48 platforms, 24 ponds and shops, and a large number of water villages and castles. Taizhou Fucheng, that is, Linhai, is located in the center of this line of defense.
However, the Great Wall at sea did not stop the Japanese invasion, and the coastal defense was often broken by the Japanese. 1556, 28-year-old Qi Jiguang was promoted to Taizhou (in the prime of life). He was inspired by the residential buildings built by coastal fishermen with stones, and the walls were raised, widened and strengthened. On both sides of the city wall, stone strips are used as the base, and the top is wrapped with masonry, which increases the city wall, unifies the pile height and builds a hollow watchtower. The upgraded Taizhou City Wall is 6,286 meters long (currently 467 1 meter), which greatly strengthens the guarding function, protects the head and tail, and has the functions of lookout and reserve.
Qi Jiguang was promoted to the company commander of Yuji Town (Yuji Town is one of the "Nine Towns" of the Great Wall, whose duty is to defend the capital, and the company commander was stationed in Jixian County, Hebei Province) for his outstanding military exploits against the Japanese aggressors, and enlisted more than 20,000 Zhejiang soldiers to go north. These soldiers who built the wall of Taizhou Prefecture became the "technical backbone" to upgrade the Great Wall of Ming Dynasty. They applied the skills and experience of building a double-layer hollow enemy platform to the Great Wall.
