My hometown is du cun, Pinglu County, Shanxi Province, and now it is called Duma Village together with Macun. 1938, Japanese devils occupied my hometown. I was 6 years old at that time, and I was old enough to remember. At that time, my father worked as a postman in Yuncheng post office, and there were grandparents and several uncles at home. My mother took me and my two-year-old brother to live with my grandfather. When the Japanese came, the quiet mountain village was restless. Ghost soldiers burn, kill, rape and rob, and do all kinds of evil. From time to time, they go to the countryside to "clean up", grab food and catch women. Some of Ding Zhuang in Murakami went out to be soldiers in the national army, some in the Eighth Route Army, and most of them went out to flee. The common people are commonly known as "fleeing from Japan". The rest of the old, weak, women and children, the poorest young women, usually wipe their faces with ashes from the bottom of the pot, making them dirty to avoid accidents. Every time the Japanese devils go to the countryside, the villagers bring their pot helmets branded in advance, run into the ravine and hide in the pigeon hole in the mountains. Pigeon Cave is a big cave in the mountains, where countless wild pigeons live. The villagers call this cave a pigeon hole. Some grandfathers are driving their own cows and donkeys, while others are carrying things. My mother not only wants to hug my brother, but also takes care of me. I am small and can't run fast. My mother asked me to pull her back, but I still fell behind the crowd. When I was in a hurry, fortunately, my fourth uncle arrived in time, and he picked me up and ran to the mountains.
My uncle's home is in Macun, which is close to my village, one mile away. My second uncle is the leader of the underground party, secretly organizing anti-Japanese activities and delivering information for the Eighth Route Army. Unfortunately, it was betrayed by a traitor. Japanese soldiers asked my second uncle to hand over the list of local production parties for the enemy to torture. My second uncle died, and the cruel Japanese soldiers tied him up and threw him into a deep well and drowned him alive. Fourth Uncle is just seventeen, tall and strong. Then he came to help us every time he escaped from the mutiny. Otherwise, it would be difficult for mom to protect our brother and sister in the war alone. This dangerous thing will happen every ten or eight days. Grandpa is too old to run. He doesn't think the Japanese will leave him at home in his sixties. Who knows that Japanese soldiers don't care about this at all, they tie him to a tree and whip him, forcing him to tell where the villagers are hiding. Our Lao Yang family is a big family, and Grandpa is very respected in the village. It was he who discussed with the elders in the village to let the villagers hide in the pigeon hole. He knew that once the Japanese found the pigeon hole, the villagers would be in big trouble, and no matter how tortured the Japanese devils were, they would not tell where the villagers were hiding. Guizibing was so angry that he lowered his head and poured soapy water into his mouth that he tortured the old man unconscious several times. After Gui Zibing left, people returned to the village and quickly rescued their unconscious grandfather. At that time, there was no medicine, so I took the most primitive way, caught a fly and put it in my grandfather's mouth, making him sick and vomit and spit out soapy water.
In the years of war-torn, every day is like sitting on a mountain of sorrow, and the days are like years. Suddenly came the good news of my father. He was temporarily converted to military mail by the national army during the war, and his treatment was much better than that in the local post office. He took the three of us to Yuncheng. Arriving in Yuncheng is another kind of tension and danger. All day, we have to avoid the bombing of Japanese planes. Every family digs a bomb shelter. When they heard the alarm, they went into their bomb shelter. I stayed in Yuncheng for about a year and transferred my troops to Luoyang. We will go with the military mail team, with soldiers protecting us, but we will go by ourselves. My father is holding my three-year-old brother, and my mother is leading me behind. At the end of the day, my father's arm was swollen and I couldn't lift it. Once, he put his brother in front of the village land temple and wanted to be taken away by good people. After just a few dozen steps, he felt unbearable, so he turned and took his brother away. Fortunately, his brother didn't leave.
We often don't have enough to eat on the way to transfer. Wherever we go, we always go to the local people's homes to beg for food first, and what we can get is nothing, no matter how thick or thin. We are protected by soldiers and know some air defense knowledge. Hearing the alarm, we can all obey the garrison's password and lie down in the farmland by the roadside. It was May, and I was lying in the pea field, taking the opportunity to fold peas and eat them. The Japanese plane came, flying very low, almost wiping the treetops, the sound was deafening, and the fleeing crowd behind the military postal team did not know how to avoid the Japanese plane, which caused heavy losses. I cried a lot after the Japanese plane flew away. I saw that the road was full of broken limbs, blood and meat. The intestines and stomachs of the victims hung on branches, and some of them were blown into human shapes. The air smells of blood. It's so horrible! This tragic scene is engraved in my mind like a brand, which is unforgettable. When I arrived in Luoyang, I had nightmares for several days and was awakened several times.
After five or six days, I finally arrived in Luoyang, and the days finally settled down, and there was no need to "escape from Japan" anymore. After staying in Luoyang for three years, my father was transferred to Taiyi Palace at the foot of Zhong Nanshan Mountain in Xi. I was 14 years old when I won the Anti-Japanese War. August 15 is more lively than Chinese New Year. I saw many people crying and telling each other. There are firecrackers and drums everywhere. My mother hugged me happily and said, "We don't have to' escape from Japan' in fear anymore."
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, my father returned to the local post office, and we moved from Taiyi Palace to Xi 'an. Since then, I have lived here and become a native of Xi.
