Which is more harmful, margarine or shortening?
Margarine Margarine is a product made of hydrogenated vegetable oil or animal fat, which contains a lot of trans fatty acids. Trans fatty acids have been proved to have adverse effects on human health, which will increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, while ghee is an oil used to make cakes, biscuits and fried foods, which is made of partially hydrogenated or mixed vegetable oil or animal fat. Shortened oil also contains a certain amount of trans fatty acids, but the content is lower than margarine, so from the health point of view, margarine is more harmful.
