Hainan Medical College was officially renamed Hainan Medical University with the approval of the Ministry of Education on May 6th, 20021. This is the only local university in Hainan Province that features medicine and focuses on undergraduate education. With 10 undergraduate majors and 5 first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees, it is one of the key universities in Hainan to deepen the comprehensive reform of higher education.
The name change is to further enhance the popularity and influence of Hainan Medical University at home and abroad, and to provide better support and guarantee for cultivating more high-quality medical talents and realizing the modernization of medical and health system in Hainan Province and its surrounding areas.
Hainan Medical College is the only public medical college in Hainan Free Trade Port. Its predecessor was Haiqiang Medical Technology School founded by 1947 and private medical college of Hainan University founded by 1948. Over the past 70 years, it has trained more than 70,000 high-quality medical and health talents for the country, and is the first batch of pilot universities in the national excellent doctor education and training program.
