The School of Environmental Science and Engineering of Shandong University was established at the end of 2000 by the former Department of Environmental Engineering and Experiment Center of Shandong University and the former Department of Environmental Science and Chemical Engineering of Shandong University of Technology. The college has two majors: environmental science and environmental engineering, with a first-class doctoral program in environmental science and engineering, a postdoctoral mobile station in environmental science and engineering, 1 national specialty, 1 brand specialty in Shandong universities, and 1 key discipline in Shandong province.
It has four provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, including Shandong Key Laboratory of Water Environmental Pollution Control and Recycling, Shandong Demonstration Engineering Technology Research Center of Water Pollution Control, Shandong Environmental Science Engineering Technology Research Center, and Shandong Sino-US Environmental and Health Technology Cooperation Research Center.
