The Digital Media Laboratory of the School of Journalism and Communication was established in 2002 under the support of the 985 Program. With a total area of about 200 square meters, the digital media lab consists of an Apple lab and a non-linear editing lab, whose functions are positioned as non-linear editing, graphic design and media research, and belongs to the comprehensive teaching lab. The Digital Media Laboratory has the core task of accomplishing the teaching and practice of undergraduate and postgraduate students of the College, and also provides data support and platform services for the research of teachers and students. The Digital Media Laboratory will gradually be reintegrated on the basis of the original laboratory conditions in the college, further clarifying the positioning and function of each machine room, supplementing the number and types of experimental equipment, and forming a complete teaching system and experimental environment. The following is an introduction to the laboratory's machine room conditions.
Apple computer room
The Apple computer room is located in 225N of Yingjie Exchange Center, with an area of 100 square meters.The Apple computer room consists of Apple computers and corresponding software environments.The hardware part of the Apple computer room consists of 41 Apple iMac all-in-one computers, 2 Apple Mac Pro workstations, 2 xServe servers, and 1 xServe server. The hardware part of the Apple server room consists of 41 Apple iMac all-in-one computers, 2 Apple Mac Pro workstations, 2 xServe servers, and 1 xServe RAID disk array with 7TB storage capacity. the Apple server room adopts the Gigabit Ethernet as the network environment and the Apple Open Directory user management mode to provide application software services based on Apple Mac OS X platform and Microsoft Windows XP platform.
Non-linear Editing Server Room
The Non-linear Editing Lab is located in the North Bungalow of the First Teaching, which is a relatively independent compound, in which the labs and equipment rooms cover an area of about 100 square meters. It currently has 12 professional-grade graphic workstations, which can simultaneously meet the needs of 12 project teams for video editing at the same time. Graphics workstations use DELL PRECISION 490 model, CPU for dual Xeon dual-core servers dedicated CPU, with powerful data processing capabilities, 2G server-specific memory, and is equipped with a professional Canopus DV Strom XA non-linear editing card, dual LCD monitors, in addition to the 250G storage space on the machine, but also equipped with a total capacity of 2.4 T disk array, a dedicated server is responsible for the management of media resources to meet the need for massive storage of video data. Non-linear editing also has a number of professional DV cameras, as well as some digital equipment, mainly for radio and television journalism undergraduate students to provide video recording and editing services.
