Jilin University Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital moved from its original location on Xinmin Street in Chaoyang District, Changchun City to a new location on Freedom Avenue in Changchun Economic and Technological Development Zone, which was allocated land by the Jilin Provincial and Changchun Municipal Governments, and construction funded by the Ministry of Health, with 2.6 billion yen of free assistance from the Japanese Government for medical equipment. In order to thank the Japanese for their sincere and generous hospital, the hospital was renamed Baikou'en University of Medical Sciences (Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital) with the approval of the Ministry of Health. In 2000, after the merger of Baikou'en Medical University and Jilin University, the hospital was officially renamed as China-Japan Friendship Hospital of Jilin University.
