But the first-quarter results don't reflect asml's real sales situation, because the current demand for lithography from major manufacturers is so urgent that some orders for lithography have been shipped to customers before they've been tested by the factory, and revenue from those orders will be recognized over the next several quarters. From a practical point of view, the current order of asml has been scheduled until 2024, so it can be expected that asml's lithography will still maintain rapid growth in the next few years.

How many lithography machines does ASML sell to China?

In Q1 2022, asml sold a total of 62 lithography machines, including 59 new systems and 3 used systems. As for how many of those 62 lithography machines were sold to China, asml didn't give accurate data. But we can infer from the composition of asml's sales performance. Of course, many of these lithography machines are likely to be lower-end lithography machines, so it's possible that 1.35 billion euros corresponds to more, so mainland China's first-quarter purchases of ASML lithography machines could reach between 27 and 35 units. Three, the solution to the problem of high-end lithography still have to rely on themselves.

Without EUV lithography as a backing, it's basically impossible to produce chips above 7 nanometers, and some of the current low-end and mid-range lithography can only be used to produce chips up to 14 nanometers, and at most 10 nanometers or so, even after multiple exposures. Although SMIC has realized the N+1 and N+2 processes through technological process improvements, and the cores produced are closer to 7 nanometers, there is still a big gap compared with the world's top 5-nanometer and even 3-nanometer chips.
