A collection of tools
(1) insect net: insect net is the collection of butterflies and insects indispensable kiwi tools, by the handle, net frame and gauze mesh three-part composition. The frame is usually made of eight zinc wire handle. Its diameter can be large or small, from 30 centimeters to 60 centimeters. The net is sewn with transparent soft gauze. Can also be used to modify the old nylon mosquito nets, the size of the net depending on the size of the diameter of the net frame; net depth must be twice the diameter of the net frame. The handle is made of bamboo poles, the length of which does not exceed the height of the ideal.
(2) Triangle paper and triangle box: Triangle paper is used to wrap butterflies. The best is to use wax paper, the size is thirty-two open below. The triangle box is a container for the triangle paper. Can be replaced by any four-square type of carton.
The collection method
After the butterflies are set into the trap, the net frame should be twisted immediately so that the bottom of the net can hang down on the side, so that the butterflies can be prevented from entering the net to fly away again and the butterflies can be pinched and pressed at the base of the butterfly's wings and chest with the thumb and forefinger as soon as possible from the outside of the net to make the butterflies stunned, this is to prevent the butterflies from entering the net to struggle and touch the broken beautiful wings. This is to prevent the butterflies from struggling inside the net and breaking their beautiful wings.
Three, the production of specimens of equipment:
Tweezers are the most basic tools for butterfly specimens, followed by insect needles, specimen boxes, paper strips and plastic foam board. For any kind of specimen, try to use tweezers instead of pinching it directly by hand, so as to preserve the integrity of the scales on the wings. High-quality tweezers are sold in medical instrument shops, but craft tweezers are also available very cheaply in hardware tool shops. The best way to make butterfly specimens is to use a special insect needle, but it is not easy to buy and the price is high, but you can use a large head pin or sewing needle instead. Plastic foam board, also known as Polaroid, can also be replaced by cork layers, corrugated cardboard, or wooden boards, which are used in conjunction with strips of paper when spreading the wings. Specimen boxes are also not easy to buy, but can be replaced by any four-sided paper or biscuit box made of sheet iron, in which case a layer of plastic foam board should be placed in the bottom of the box, or any other convenient substitute for inserting needles.
Four, simple method of spreading the wings:
(1) so that the butterfly belly up flat on the cork layer or foam board, insert pins in the chest, so that it is fixed on the top.
(2) Unfold the wing in the usual way, press it down with a strip of paper, and secure it with a large head pin.
(3) As soon as it is dry the pin is removed, and the butterfly is turned upside down, with the back upward and the feet downward, and the insect pin is reinserted from the back, and can be removed into the specimen box.
(4) If you don't use the needle in the specimen box but want to put it in the frame to hang it up for decoration, you should choose some frames with depth, spread a layer of cotton, line up the butterflies on it and then cover the glass.
The above is a simple academic specimen manufacturing method. Formal specimen manufacturing will also need a lot of equipment
Fifth, the preservation of butterfly specimens:
Butterflies often suck nectar, anal occlusion, there is no feces, so the body is quite clean, and nectar has a sterilization effect, so as long as the nectar can be sufficiently dry to preserve butterfly specimens for decades. However, after drying, the nectar becomes tiny glucose particles in the body tissues, and the sugar will attract ants and cockroaches. Therefore, if the specimen box can not be completely sealed, we should put some deodorant pills or camphor powder in the corner of the box to preserve the beautiful butterfly specimens.
