At 14:11 on April 25, 2015, an 8.1-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal (28.2 degrees north latitude, 84.7 degrees east longitude) at a depth of 20 kilometers, with 31 aftershocks. The epicenter was located in Pokhara, with a maximum intensity of X degrees, and the heavy intensity zone extended eastward from the epicenter.

In the early morning of April 26, at the request of the Nepalese government, the Chinese government dispatched a 68-member China International Rescue Team (CIRT) on a chartered civil aviation flight from Beijing Capital Airport to Nepal to carry out humanitarian relief. According to the needs of the earthquake-stricken areas in Nepal and the specific requirements put forward by the Nepalese government, the China International Rescue Team was led by Zhao Ming, Director of the Department of Emergency and Rescue of the China Earthquake Administration, and consisted of 62 experienced search and rescue team members, medical and nursing team members, seismic experts, and technical support personnel. In addition, the China International Rescue Team carried search and rescue equipment, rescue equipment, medical equipment and six search and rescue dogs on the trip.

This operation is the shortest preparation time, the fastest mobilization and the largest number of personnel for the China International Rescue Team to carry out an international rescue mission, as well as the heaviest operation with the international coordination task. From April 26 to May 8, during the 13 consecutive days of rescue, China International Rescue Team has rescued 2 survivors, found and located the remains of 9 victims, exhumed 3, helped to salvage more than 910 pieces of materials, searched and discharged 430 buildings in 18 work zones, carried out 9,763 medical rounds, prevented epidemics and decontaminated an area of 170,000 square meters, and donated medicines and consumables valued at 1.22 million yuan to the disaster area.

China has successfully completed the international rescue mission, and was highly praised by the United Nations Health Organization, the Nepalese government and local people.

The China International Rescue Team was the first UN-certified international heavy rescue team to arrive at the earthquake-stricken areas of Nepal, and the first international rescue team to rescue survivors. The team members, with the rescue concept of "treating the disaster situation as an order, treating the disaster-stricken areas as a battlefield, and treating time as a life", were "especially hardworking and capable of fighting". With the rescue concept of "regard the disaster area as an order, regard time as life", the rescue style of "special hardship, special fighting", the team members have become a very important rescue force in the disaster area by their tenacity and hard work and continuous operation, which has set up a good international image of our country and demonstrated the good spirit of our army.

Before returning home, the China International Rescue Team held a short donation ceremony in the camp, and presented the remaining tents, food, medicine and other urgently needed supplies to the Nigerian side.
