As the southernmost deep-sea observatory in China, Xisha Satellite Observatory can take into account the rocket launch tracking observation and on-orbit satellite operation management of four domestic space launch sites, filling the coverage gap of TT&C network of China Space over the South China Sea.

Wang Yinghao, a 29-year-old Wenzhou Ruian guy, is in charge of rocket observation and long-term satellite management. He went to work at Xisha Satellite Observatory after graduating from university on October 20 15. So far, he has carried out more than 30 space launch missions such as the first flight of the Long March 7 and Long March 5 rockets.
"All-round" talents
At 8 o'clock on the evening of June 23rd, 2020, Wang Yinghao, a cadre of the security department of the Observatory, said that the temperature on the island was around 28~29℃ and the air humidity was particularly high. "Going out for a walk after dinner will make people wet and sticky." The climate here is different from his hometown of Ruian, Wenzhou.
Far away from the mainland, although the environment is beautiful-green sand, blue sea and blue sky, there are many facilities for testing climatic conditions with high temperature, high humidity and high salt fog, and the lonely social environment tests people even more.
With the development of China's space industry, the mission density of rocket observation and satellite long tube is also increasing year by year. Wang Yinghao said that the equipment here operates almost 24 hours a day. For example, during the National Day Mid-Autumn Festival this year, they carried out the long-term satellite management task of 188 hours-8 days holiday, and the most time was 192 hours.
"The equipment on the island is located less than 20 meters away from the coastline and is extremely vulnerable to salt fog corrosion in the air." The staff carefully worked out weekly, monthly, quarterly and semi-annual maintenance plans, wiped and cleaned the equipment, derusted and painted it, and made good protection.

20 13 when I first went to the island, most of the island was bare and the original soil was not suitable for growing plants. After the observatory was completed, the project of "Hundreds of Trees" was launched, calling on everyone to "bring their families to the island, plant rooted trees on the island and plant grateful flowers on the outlying islands". Using these hundreds of different colors of red, yellow and black soil, flowers and trees were planted on the island, and the air-conditioned water in the computer room and dormitory was collected to water the seedlings carefully. Now the island is lush and thriving.
Remote islands have no social environment to rely on. All the materials and fresh water here can only be replenished once a month by mainland transport ships. Vegetables and fruits are put in the freezer, and all aspects of life depend on ourselves. "All astronauts on our island can have haircuts and cook, and have basic medical care, landscaping, material allocation, electrical appliances repair, infrastructure construction, and physical and mental adjustment ..." They can be called "all-round" talents.
Accurate tracking
After graduating from the University of Kloc-0/5, Wang Yinghao began to work in Xisha Satellite Observatory. He served as the master controller, receiver and data interactive operator of radar system, and carried out more than 30 space launch missions such as the first flight of Long March 7 and Long March 5 rockets.
For Wang Yinghao, what impressed him most was his first mission. It was May 30, 20 16, and the follow-up observation mission of Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center Resource No.3 02 was carried out.
"I studied with Gang for more than half a year. Although I've seen the old masters with ease many times, when I really sat in that position and held the joystick, the inexplicable tension immediately emerged. The scene where the target was lost and recaptured again and again flashed in my mind like a movie. "
After the rocket takes off, the post personnel should accurately control the equipment according to the actual flight situation of the rocket, track the rocket stably, and make emergency preparations for target loss and recapture at any time.
"When the rocket flew over the South China Sea, we were the key observation equipment. The loss of signal will cause the center to be unable to obtain the target location data, and the entire navigation area is staring at us. " After successfully completing more than ten minutes of follow-up, Wang Yinghao found that his palms were all sweaty and his hands were shaking slightly.
The experience of successfully completing the task for the first time has established confidence for Wang Yinghao to carry out a series of subsequent major tasks.

Wang Yinghao did well in school when he was a child. Before he came of age, he lived in Ruian, Wenzhou.
