3. What are liquids, gels and sprays?
Liquids, gels and aerosols include:
Drinks, such as mineral water, beverages, soups and syrups;
Creams, lotions, oils, perfumes and cosmetics;
Sprays and compressed containers, such as shaving foam and deodorant sprays;
Pastes, such as toothpaste;
Contact lens solutions;
Gels, such as gel, which are not allowed to be carried on board.
Gels, such as hair styling and bath gel products;
Any solutions and articles of similar consistency.
4. When traveling on domestic flights, do I also need to pack liquids in containers no larger than 100 ml and place them in a resealable clear plastic bag?
No. At present, China only implements the ICAO Guidelines for passengers traveling on international and regional flights (including passengers traveling on international transit flights).
5. What are the requirements for domestic flights?
On domestic flights, each person is allowed to carry no more than 1 liter of liquid per person, and the bottle must be opened and inspected to confirm that it is safe to carry. The excess must be checked in. Alcohol must be checked in.
6. Can I bring water/drinks/food with liquids on international flights through the security check at the Capital Airport?
On international and regional flights departing from airports in China, such items must be contained in containers with a capacity of no more than 100 ml and placed in a resealable transparent plastic bag with a capacity of no more than one liter. Each passenger is allowed to carry only one transparent plastic bag at a time, and the excess should be surrendered.
Transparent plastic bags containing liquids are subject to separate security checks.
Drinking water for passengers is available free of charge in controlled areas, or water or other beverages can be purchased at stores. Airlines also provide drinking water on board the airplane.
7. How should I prepare to speed up the security check process?
When traveling to the airport, please allow time for security screening. Whenever possible, items that will not be used on the airplane should be checked in as checked baggage. Prior to security screening, please prepare a one-liter clear plastic bag for liquids, gels and sprays and separate it from the rest of your carry-on baggage for security screening.
8. Are there any specific regulations on the shape and size of these re-sealable clear plastic bags? Where can I find transparent plastic bags that meet the specifications?
The DGCA recommends the use of resealable transparent plastic bags with a size of 20cm X 20cm and a capacity of one liter.
These are usually found in supermarkets and household stores. If a traveler does not bring one of these bags to the airport, the airport will make them available to international departing passengers, one per passenger.
9. Is there a limit to the number of containers in a one-liter plastic bag?
There is no restriction on the number of containers, but each container must not contain more than 100 milliliters and can be placed entirely within a one-liter plastic bag without appearing to be crowded. Generally, a one-liter plastic bag can hold five containers of 100 ml capacity.
10. What medications are exempt?
Liquid, gel and aerosol medications (including herbal medications) are exempt if accompanied by a doctor's prescription or hospital certificate, and the quantity of the medication is based on what the traveler will need on the plane. Containers and plastic bags are not required. Medications should be handed over separately to security personnel for X-ray inspection. Security personnel will ask passengers to present a doctor's certificate or doctor's prescription.
11. I am carrying liquid medications that are adult medications purchased at a pharmacy and do not have a doctor's prescription. Can these medicines pass the security check?
Liquid medication in a container of not more than 100 ml in a resealable transparent plastic bag of not more than one liter will pass the security check.
12. What are the restrictions on medications for travelers who are diabetic?
Passengers with diabetes are allowed to carry enough insulin preparations and hypodermic syringes with needles to be used on board the airplane, provided they show a medical certificate.
Passengers with diabetes who are required to carry their own personal prescribed food (e.g. unsweetened fruit juices) for consumption on board the aircraft are required to present a medical certificate if the container is larger than 100 ml. Exempted medication and food should be separated from other hand baggage for inspection.
13. How much milk/juice/food for infants can be carried through the security check?
Passengers are allowed to carry as much milk/juice/food for infants as required on board the aircraft. If the capacity of the container is more than 100 ml, it should be handed over separately to the security personnel for inspection. It should also be checked with the infant traveling with it for security.
To avoid any inconvenience during the security check, baby milk/juice/food carried by the passenger should be placed in the checked baggage if it is not necessary to consume it on board the aircraft.
14. Do liquids have to be in their original containers?
No. Liquids, gels and sprays can be used as long as the capacity of the container does not exceed 100 milliliters.
Liquid containers exceeding 100 milliliters are not allowed to be carried in carry-on baggage and must be checked in as checked baggage.
15. Do I need to use transparent containers?
Not necessary.
16. I wear disposable contact lenses. Is it possible to keep more than one pair of such glasses in hand luggage in case of emergency?
Passengers can put several pairs of contact lenses in their hand baggage, but since contact lenses are usually contained in a certain volume of liquid, they must all be placed in a one-liter plastic bag.
17. Can I bring contact lens solution?
Contact lens solution must be contained in a container of no more than 100 ml and then placed in a one-liter plastic bag. Containers of excessive capacity must be checked in.
18. Can I bring lipstick and deodorant on board?
Yes. Passengers can bring any solid cosmetics on board, so lip balm and deodorant in general are also allowed. Passengers may also carry deodorant sprays, deodorant creams, deodorant beads and lip glosses, but the capacity of the containers must not exceed 100 ml. These containers must be stored in a one-liter plastic bag. Containers of excessive capacity shall be checked in.
19. Are toothpaste and shaving foam liquids, gels and sprays?
Yes. Containers for these items must not exceed 100 milliliters in volume and should be placed in a one-liter plastic bag. Excessive containers must be checked in.
20. What happens to liquids, gels and aerosols and their containers if they do not pass the security check?
If they do not pass the security check, these items and containers can only be disposed of.
Therefore, travelers should place liquids, gels and sprays in their checked baggage in order to pass the security check.
21. Can liquid items purchased by international departing passengers after going through the security checkpoint be carried on the departing flight?
Yes. Passengers who have gone through the security check can purchase liquid duty-free goods from stores in the airport control area and take them on board their departing flights. For passengers who need to change planes abroad, they should make sure that the plastic bags are obviously intact and undamaged during the trip, and should not be unsealed by themselves. They should also keep their boarding passes and proof of purchase of liquid goods for inspection by the relevant personnel at the place of change of planes. Travelers can check with airlines in advance about the regulations on carrying relevant liquids.
22. If a passenger has purchased liquids at the previous airport or on board the airplane, can he/she carry these liquids through the security check when he/she transfers to an international flight at Beijing Capital International Airport (for domestic flights, please refer to the relevant requirements for domestic flights)?
As long as the packaging of these items meets the requirements and you can show the proof of purchase from the duty-free store at the airport (on board the airplane), they can be released.
