When Western medicine was first introduced to China, it was almost synonymous with civilization and progress.
during the Republic of China, progressives spared no effort to promote western medicine. Many new figures at that time openly resisted Chinese medicine. Such as Liang Qichao, Lu Xun, Hu Shi, Guo Moruo, Wang Jingwei, Fu Sinian and so on.
The most unlucky Liang Qichao
Liang Qichao is 51 years old. He has a disease for no reason, always with blood in his urine, and the cause is unknown. At first, he went to a German hospital in Dongjiaomin Lane. German doctors made a comprehensive examination for him in half a month, and ruled out stones and tuberculosis. However, due to the lack of medical testing equipment, it was impossible to judge the cause of the pathogen.
Concord is a hospital run by Americans in China, which has the most advanced medical equipment in the world at that time and can be used for X-ray examination. After X-ray, the doctor found a black spot the size of a cherry on his right kidney. After diagnosis by many experts, it was agreed that the black spot was a tumor and was the cause of hematuria.
Union Medical College Hospital decided to operate on Liang Qichao and remove his right kidney.
However, after the operation, hematuria did not stop. Although sometimes the blood volume was so small that it could not be seen by naked eyes, laboratory tests proved that the disease had not healed. The Union Medical College Hospital checked again, but could not find any reason, so it had to be called "Hemorrhage without reason".
after Liang Qichao was discharged from the hospital, his urine and blood remained the same.
Liang Qixun, the younger brother of Liang Qichao, published Notes of the Hospital in the supplement of Morning News on May 29th, 1926, which fully expressed his distrust of Western medicine and thought that they had cut off a good kidney without any symptoms.
This incident caused an uproar, and even a debate about Chinese and Western medicine broke out.
Liang Qichao also had to lie with his conscience. Published "My Disease and Union Hospital" in Exhibition Newspaper, and publicly defended western medicine science.
In fact, Liang Qichao has been asking about the operation, but the Union Medical College Hospital has kept it a secret. Later, with the help of Lien Teh Wu, a famous western doctor, he was able to fully understand the situation. In a letter to the children on September 14th, 1926, Liang Qichao said:
"He (referring to Lien Teh Wu) has proved that the operation was wrong by Meng Lang of Xiehe. He has seen the right kidney that was cut off, and it is not morbid at all. He blames Xiehe for being careless and taking human life as a child's play, and Xiehe has admitted it. The root of the disease is internal medicine, not surgery. Before the operation, Kerry, Li Shudong, Yamamoto and even Concord all studied from the surgical aspect, which was really misleading. However, according to Lian De's diagnosis, it is not the so-called "bleeding without reason", but a mild nephritis. Western medicine is not incurable, but it is hard to get quick results. ..... I used to wonder if the right kidney was really sick. If the right kidney was really sick, it was either the cause or the result of bloody stool. Of course, it's not the reason why it's cut off and the blood is not stopped. If it turns out, it will be even more terrible. If it bleeds for another year or two, the left kidney will get the same result, wouldn't it be bad? I have repeatedly asked Xiehe to confirm the news. They always said that the right kidney was sick (partially decayed) in order to protect their shortcomings. Now Lian Decai has proved their lies. " (Ding Wenjiang, Zhao Toyota, Long Chronicle of Liang Qichao)
Liang Qichao's illness worsened during his stay in Beidaihe. I had to ask Tang Tianru, a Chinese medicine doctor, to see it. When Tang Tianru arrived, he was diagnosed as "gallbladder losing its ability to secrete". As a result, several doses were effective and the effect was very good. On August 22nd, Liang Qichao happily wrote to his children and said, "A large group of children, big and small! So that you can be happy, my illness is really completely cured! ..... According to Heaven, the source of the disease lies in the gallbladder, which starts with panic, changes and stagnates in the bladder. Although his words involve empty space, they are also somewhat similar. ..... His medicine is really ringing. After a year and a half of accumulated illness, it was eliminated in ten days, and the western medicine group said that it was incurable, but it was possible to collect this miraculous effect in one fell swoop! I am still careful to rest, not too hard, you can rest assured. "
in p>1929, Liang Qichao died of illness.
The most embarrassing Hu Shi
Hu Shi was a man of the May 4th Movement, who advocated new culture and thought TCM was unscientific, and was a heavyweight who opposed TCM at the beginning of last century.
Dr. Hu Shi was initially found to have symptoms such as thirst, polydipsia and polyuria, and was initially diagnosed as "diabetes". Urine contains protein, and his legs and feet are swollen and painful, which directly affects his work. Cai Yuanpei once suggested that Hu Shi take a vacation for half a year, and Hu Shi's illness did last for more than half a year.
On November 18th, 192, Hu Shi was sentenced to death by the Union Medical College Hospital because he suffered from diabetes for a long time and had chronic nephritis complicated with cardiac edema. He said, "It's impossible to save, prepare for the aftermath quickly".
Later, Li Shiceng recommended Lu Zhongan to Hu Shi, and Hu Shi considered that treating diseases with traditional Chinese medicine was "without scientific basis" and did not agree. Later, Ma Youyu was introduced again, and Hu Shicai extended his medical treatment to Lu. After some diagnosis and treatment, he recovered quickly.
Hu Shi wrote more than 5 words on "Lu Zhong 'an's Study of Classics in Autumn Room", describing the course of treatment.
I lied against my conscience like Hu Shi, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor. In his later years, in two letters to his friends, Hu Shi slip of the tongue denied the fact that Lu Zhongan had cured his disease.
Luo Ergang, a disciple of Hu Shi, said, "Hu Shi hates people telling lies. Why did he tell a lie himself?
This is because he advocates' full globalization' and science.
He thinks that Chinese medicine is unscientific. He suffers from nephrosis, and western medicine is helpless. However, Lu Zhongan, a Chinese medicine doctor, actually cured him, which is widely circulated in the society and has a tendency to distrust western medicine. Hu Shi was afraid of being harmful to the development of science, so he had to say this. " (Luo Ergang: "My Five Years as a Teacher-Hu Shi's Notes").
The most helpless Sun Yat-sen
Sun Yat-sen "would rather die than see Chinese medicine". It once became a proof of Sun Yat-sen's firm belief. When people speak eloquently.
Lu Xun was very moved by this, and wrote: "At that time, there was an article in the news that touched me as much as his revolutionary career in his life. It is said that when western medicine was at its wits' end, some people advocated taking China medicine; However, Mr. Sun Yat-sen disagreed, thinking that drugs in China are effective, but the knowledge of diagnosis is lacking. Can't diagnose, how to use medicine? No need to take it. When people are in danger, they are generally willing to try anything, and he still has such clear reason and firm will for his own life. "
In fact, when Sun Yat-sen was seriously ill in Beijing, he always asked for conservative treatment. At that time, Union Medical College Hospital thought that Mr. Sun was probably suffering from "the most severe liver disease" and had to undergo surgery.
after the abdominal cavity was opened, it was found that it was impossible to operate, and the whole liver surface was covered with yellow and white nodules, and the organs in the whole abdominal cavity adhered together. Then sew it up.
Soon after the operation, radiotherapy was given, but the effect was not seen for two days, and the condition deteriorated sharply.
On February 17th, Ruiheng Liu wrote to Kong Xiangxi, asking him to tell Sun Yat-sen's family and people in the Kuomintang that Sun Yat-sen was suffering from an incurable disease.
Western doctors said that there was nothing they could do about Sun Yat-sen's illness, and friends and comrades recommended Chinese medicine treatment one after another, but Union Medical College Hospital also expressed great indignation at the suggestion of changing to Chinese medicine. The hospital said that Chinese medicine can't enter Concord. Although Sun Yat-sen is respected, he must move out of the hospital if he wants to use Chinese medicine for treatment.
on February 18th, Dr. Sun Yat-sen moved out of the Union Medical College Hospital because of his serious illness, and moved to the Iron Lion Hutong, where he was treated by traditional Chinese medicine. Lu Zhong 'an, a famous Chinese medicine doctor, and others visited the clinic for a week and prescribed a prescription. After taking two doses, Sun's condition improved, but a few days later, Sun stopped taking Chinese medicine and continued to use western medicine to induce diuresis and stop diarrhea. In the early morning of March 12, Sun Yat-sen suddenly turned around frequently, and his breath became weaker and weaker. At 9: 3, Sun Yat-sen stopped breathing at the age of 59.
It's not that Sun Yat-sen doesn't see Chinese medicine, but that a lot of people don't let him see Chinese medicine.
The most ridiculous Kang Youwei
Gao Baishi, a senior journalist in Taiwan Province, wrote an interesting story in his "Notes on the Newly Edited Ancient Spring Breeze Building", saying that Kang Youwei happened to read a news in the newspaper in his old age, saying that a doctor named voronov had developed a medical skill of rejuvenation, but ... the testicles of young monkeys need to be transplanted, which can delay aging and improve sexual function.
Later, Kang Youwei met a German doctor through the introduction of his good friend Jiang Fengzhi, and then had a testicular transplant operation to replace the young monkey's testicles with his own. After a while, Kang Youwei felt refreshed, and his memory and sexual desire were greatly enhanced. However, the good times did not last long. Due to the limitation of the times, many medical theories were immature. Later, the monkey's testicles had a serious rejection reaction in Lao Kang's body, and Kang Youwei eventually died suddenly.
at first I thought it was a farce, but later I found it might be true.
Kang Youwei did die suddenly. It is said that he bled to death from seven orifices. Kang family said it was food poisoning.
First, it's true that the monkey testicles were transplanted.
At the beginning of the 2th century, Austrian physiologist Stayner Herr and many doctors in Europe and America performed testicular transplantation. Since then, doctors in other countries have frequently studied testicular transplantation.
Second, the "voronov" doctor mentioned in the newspaper does exist. Voronov is a professor of medicine at the French Academy. In the 192s, he reported the successful cases of human receiving testis transplantation from sheep and cattle.
In p>1927, the Belarusian newspaper "Russian Times" published a message saying that Professor Ivanov tried to conduct an ape hybridization experiment at the Sukhumi ape breeding base in the Soviet Union. The news was a sensation.
"Kang Shengren" has six wives and concubines, so it is understandable that the demand is urgent.
