How many occupations are there in China?

● The Labor Law of the People's Republic of China (PRC) stipulates that the State determines the classification of occupations, establishes occupational skill standards for prescribed occupations, and implements a system of occupational qualification certificates.

● The Dictionary of Occupational Classification of the People's Republic of China is jointly organized and compiled by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the State Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision, and the National Bureau of Statistics.

● More than 50 departments of the Central Government and the State Council, as well as nearly 1,000 experts and scholars from relevant research institutes, colleges and universities, and some enterprises participated in the compilation of the Dictionary of Occupational Classification of the Chinese People*** and the State.

● The compilation of the Chinese People's Classification of Occupations was started in early 1995 and lasted for 4 years; it passed the finalization in early 1999 and was formally promulgated in May 1999, which is the first time that the Chinese People's Classification of Occupations was compiled.

● "The Chinese People's **** and State Classification of Occupations Dictionary" classifies China's occupations into 8 major categories, 66 medium categories, 413 subcategories, and 1,838 subcategories (occupations).The 8 major categories are:

The first major category: heads of state organs, party and group organizations, enterprises, and institutions, which includes 5 medium categories, 16 subcategories, and 25 subcategories;

The second major category: professional and technical personnel, which includes 14 medium categories, 115 subcategories, and 379 subcategories;

The third major category: clerical and related personnel, which includes 4 medium categories, 12 subcategories, and 45 subcategories;

The fourth major category: commercial and service industry personnel, which includes 8 medium categories, 43 subcategories, and 147 subcategories;

Fifth major category: agricultural, forestry, animal husbandry, fishery and water conservancy production personnel, which includes 6 medium categories, 30 subcategories and 121 subcategories;

Sixth major category: production and transportation equipment operators and related personnel, which includes 27 medium categories, 195 subcategories and 1119 subcategories;

Seventh major category: military personnel, which includes 1 medium category, 1 subcategory and 1 subcategory

The eighth major category: other practitioners who are inconveniently classified, which includes 1 medium category, 1 subcategory, and 1 subdetail.
