Wuxi dialect is a kind of Wu dialect. According to the linguistic features, Wu dialect can be divided into five regions, namely Taihu Lake, Taizhou, Dongou, Wuzhou and Liyuan. Taihu Lake can be divided into six small blocks, namely Piling small block, Su Hu small block, Tiaoxi small block, Hanghu small block, Shaolin small block and Mingzhou small block.
Wuxi is located in the transitional dialect zone of Wu dialect-Taihu Lake-Piling and Wu dialect-Taihu Lake-Suhujia, so the western town near Wujin in Changzhou is obviously different from the eastern town near Suzhou and Changshu. Wuxi dialect can still distinguish sharp group sounds, most people in suburban towns can distinguish flat tongues, and the tongues below minors in urban areas have degenerated, but the sharp group sounds are still intact.
