: The United States back to the "neighborhood uncle"
Johnson, Roche, Bayer, Abbott, talking about blood glucose meter, we first thought of these four brands, just like the "Eagle Eagles Heroes" martial arts masters, must be called the East Evil, the West Poisonous, the South Emperor, the North Beggar. However, a few years ago, the United States, a Nova blood glucose meter came out of nowhere, and then Johnson & Johnson quietly withdrew from the U.S. hospital market, while vigorously promoting Nova blood glucose meter in Chinese hospitals.
There was a key figure behind this sudden change in the market, a Chinese-American named Cai Xiaohua, the developer of the Nova glucose meter, who is now the deputy general manager and chief scientist of Sanno Bio.
Chinese Americans, postdocs, and high incomes, if that describes you right now, must make you feel that your future is full of endless possibilities, as Cai Xiaohua once thought before he turned 50. Only, his next choice made some people wonder why he gave up everything in the United States and went back to China to start from scratch. After returning to China, Cai became the director, deputy general manager, and chief scientist of Changsha-based Sanno Biosensing Co. He led the team to develop China's first hospital-grade blood glucose monitoring system Gold Series will be listed in the year, and is expected to break the monopoly of foreign brands on China's blood glucose meter hospital market and high-level market for a long time.
Schooling: Under the tutelage of U.S. electrochemistry titan
Cai Xiaohua in his youth can be described as young and promising. He received his doctorate in analytical chemistry from Wuhan University at the age of 27, and then went to teach at Hainan University in the form of talent introduction, where he was promoted to associate professor at the age of 28.
In early 1997, Cai Xiaohua entered the world's top 20 medical instruments in the field of the U.S. Nova Inc. and developed the world's first truly hospital-grade glucose meter, which is now sold in major drugstores in Europe and the United States and is used by many of his counterparts as the gold standard. He has an enviable salary in the company, his wife has a good job in the U.S., and his two daughters are studying in the U.S., making him a happy family of four.
Aiming to return to China to benefit his hometown
With such a successful career and a happy family, anyone would think that Cai Xiaohua would spend his life in the United States, but Cai Xiaohua doesn't think so. I always feel very lost in my heart, I feel that there is something missing. Cai Xiaohua said, wandering outside for more than 20 years, my roots in China, I would like to go back to China to start a business, I want to use my technology to benefit the people in their hometowns, and do a good job in foreign countries is also for the people as a wedding dress.
During this period, many domestic and foreign headhunters contacted Cai Xiaohua, wanting to hire him at a high salary, but he politely declined, until more than two years ago, the two founders of SUNO Biotech, Li Shaobo and Che Jujili, approached him to depict the beautiful blueprint of SUNO Biotech, which is the first blood glucose meter company in Asia and the most influential in the world. Seeing that Sanno Bio is already well known in China, and the company's leadership team is very young and energetic, Cai Xiaohua thought to himself: this is Sanno, I want to create a big international brand in China.
Tackling the problem: developing an international first-class blood glucose monitoring system
After joining SUNO, Cai Xiaohua changed his strategic concept from being a promoter of the popularization of blood glucose meters to becoming an expert in blood glucose meters.
Why the slogan "blood glucose meter expert"? Cai Xiaohua introduced, Sanno biological 12 years, so that action glucose meter into the tens of thousands of households, but due to technical and other reasons, the domestic blood glucose meter hospital market and high-level market has been monopolized by foreign brands. Under his leadership, Sanno Bio has developed a blood glucose monitoring system, the Gold Series, which will be launched within the year. It has always been our goal to develop high-level products comparable to Johnson & Johnson, Abbott, Roche and other major international brands, said Cai, adding that the Gold Series is such an internationally leading hospital-grade blood glucose meter, with the goal of entering the domestic hospital market and the high-level market, as well as entering the mainstream market in Europe and the United States.
: Childlike Feng Zikai
Feng Zikai is an accomplished literary master. His writings are vivid and honest, and his cartoons are mostly about children. He himself had a kind and childlike heart.
Feng Zikai*** had seven children. The one he drew the most in his cartoons was his eldest daughter, Bao. Once, Ah Bao took a pair of soft new shoes, and took off his feet to the stool on the pair, but also proudly called: Ah Bao two feet, the stool four feet. Her mother hastened to shout: Don't dirty the socks! Then she immediately grabbed Bao onto the rattan couch and proceeded to destroy her creation. Feng Zikai, however, approved of his daughter's naughtiness, and instead thought how his own wife was a sight for sore eyes and barbaric.
As well as enjoying his own children, Feng Zikai also enjoyed dealing with his neighbors' children.
When Fangfang was in elementary school, her mother and father were too busy to take care of the house, and Feng Zikai learned by chance that she didn't have any lunch, so he gladly invited her to his home*** for lunch.
Feng Zikai's kindness, cordiality, and humor quickly integrated the newborn girl into the warm family. Feng Zikai took Fangfang and Pingping to familiarize them with the upper and lower parts of the Sun Moon Building, and showed them a variety of Japanese comic books he had brought back from the region when he was studying in Japan, as well as various collections of paintings.
When he was not working, Feng Zikai would often take out a small notebook from his pocket and vividly sketch the sisters' concentration when they listened to his daughter Feng Yiyin's storytelling, their clumsiness when they were learning to knit, their smiles when they were teasing Mimi's cats, and their sister's innocence when she was sitting on the spittoon, combing and plaiting her hair, all of which were wonderful and brought the children endless joy and surprises!
On one occasion, my daughter Feng Yiyin took my nephew, niece, Fangfang and Pingping out for a spring trip. Upon returning to Riyue Building, the children were so excited that they chattered and talked non-stop, causing Feng Zikai to come down from his upstairs studio to watch the fun and listen to the children's descriptions of what they were saying. At this time, Feng Yiyin began to teach singing "Farewell", but unexpectedly halfway through the song was Feng Zikai stopped, he said to his daughter: the children do not know what half of the acquaintances fall ah, I give them another write one! On the spur of the moment Feng Zikai contemplated for a moment, opened his mouth and hummed a new version of "Farewell" to: Sunday, the weather is clear, we go to the spring, after a village and a village, everywhere good scenery. Peach blossom red, willow green, cauliflower like gold, singing in the sound of clapping, burst after burst.
The lyrics, which are full of children's interest, do not need to be explained, and the children will understand them perfectly as soon as they hear them. The lyrics were later accompanied by a catchy and beautiful musical score, so the Feng family sang it all the time. In addition to this one, Feng Zikai would also teach the children to sing other children's songs.
Feng Zikai's childishness really came from his long relationship with the children, but also from his love of children.
: Toothbrush sells for $475 million
In 1987, two postal workers in Virginia, Tom Coleman and Bill Schrott, overheard a child holding a glow stick that emitted a bright green light. Instead of laughing it off like other adults, they immediately began to wonder what use they could make of it, even though it looked interesting. The two men began to think out of the box. Finally, they caught on to one of the best ideas and put a lollipop on the top of a glow stick. That way, light would pass through the translucent candy, revealing a fantastical effect that was even more pronounced at night.
The two men then filed a patent and sold their patent for the glowing lollipop to the Cape Candy Company in the United States.
This was just a small prelude to the saga. The two postmen continued to think down the road: lollipops are hard to lick, and after a long time, a child's cheeks get sore before the candy is finished. If the lollipop can turn by itself, won't it save effort and be fun? So they put the lollipop on an insert that can rotate automatically, and the battery-driven little motor turns the candy through small gears.
John Osher, the leader of the Cape Candy Company, took up this magical spinning baton and created even greater wonders. He left the company after Cape Candy was bought out and set out to find new problems that could be solved using the rotary motor.
He and his friends went to their local Wal-Mart supermarket for inspiration. As they passed through the merchandise aisles, they saw numerous brands of electric toothbrushes that cost upwards of $50 each. They also learned that sales of electric toothbrushes were small because of the high prices. But with their spinning lollipop technology, it would only cost $5 to make an electric toothbrush.
But Procter & Gamble ended its contract with the Osher 3 21 months early because the multinational found that the rotating electric toothbrush sold too well, far beyond their expectations. The product, sold through Wal-Mart and in 35 countries around the world, became one of the fastest-selling products sweeping the global market, which meant that P&G had to pay the Osher 3 far more than expected at the end of their contract as well.
In the end, Osher and his two partners got a one-time payment of $310 million. Together with the original $165 million advance,*** $475 million, an astronomical figure that made the inventor's head spin. But it all started with a tiny green glow stick on the side of the road.
