TE has seventeen manufacturing plants in Shanghai, Kunshan, Suzhou, Wuxi, Zhuhai, Dongguan, Shunde, Shenzhen, Qingdao, and Zibo in China with a total of more than 27,000 employees.
The Qingdao plant is TE's largest production base in China, comprising Qingdao Amputech Electronics (i.e., Plant 1) and Tyco Electronics (Qingdao) Co., Ltd. (i.e., Plant 2), with a total of nearly 5,000 employees. Established in March 1996 as a wholly foreign owned enterprise, Plant I is located in the Qingdao Huanhai Economic Development Zone, Chengyang District, Qingdao, with 35,000 square meters of purchased land and over 30,000 square meters of building space. By the end of May 2006, the accumulated fixed assets investment of the first factory exceeded USD 100 million, with a strong high-speed stamping, precision molding, plating, assembly, tooling and spare parts support, engineering and testing, and other complete and coordinated 3C connectors and communication relays manufacturing system.
The second factory was built in May 2005, located in Qingdao Export Processing Zone, purchased 73,600 square meters of land, the first phase of construction took more than half a year, the quality of the completed building area of 22,400 square meters, the actual investment of more than 0.2 billion U.S. dollars in January 2006 formally put into operation, with international advanced equipment level of high-speed stamping, precision molding, plating, assembly, testing and other ancillary production capacity, providing terminals, plastic shelves and other products. Production capacity, to provide terminals, plastic frame, industrial and commercial connectors, communication connectors, computer SOCKET and other series of products.
