What are surgical masks made of What is the standard of medical surgical masks

1 What are surgical masks made of

Medical surgical masks are usually made of three layers of nonwoven fabric.

And the material of these 3 layers of nonwoven fabric is spunbond nonwoven + meltblown nonwoven + spunbond nonwoven. Can also be a layer of short fiber to improve the skin feel, that is, ES hot rolled nonwoven + meltblown nonwoven + spunbond nonwoven. The outer layer of the mask has an anti-spatter design, the middle layer filters and the memory absorbs moisture. Meltblown fabric is generally selected 20 grams of weight.

2 What are the standards for medical surgical masks

The national YY0469-2004 "Medical Surgical Masks Technical Requirements" standard provides that medical surgical masks must meet the important technical indicators, including filtration efficiency, bacterial filtration efficiency and respiratory resistance:

1. Filtration efficiency: under the condition of the air flow (30 ± 2) L/min, the median diameter of the aerodynamic ( 0.24±0.06)μm sodium chloride aerosol filtration efficiency is not less than 30%;

2. Bacteria filtration efficiency: under the specified conditions, the filtration efficiency is not less than 95% for Staphylococcus aureus aerosol with the average particle diameter of (3±0.3)μm;

3. Breathing resistance: under the conditions of filtration efficiency flow rate, the inhalation resistance is not more than 49Pa.

Medical surgical masks are generally made of nonwoven materials, including the filtration layer, mask strap and nose clip. The standard medical surgical mask is made of 3 layers.

2. Different roles

Medical surgical masks are more resistant to bacteria and viruses, and can be used in daily life to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as influenza and respiratory diseases, and can also prevent patients from infecting others with viruses.

Disposable masks can prevent respiratory infections to a certain extent, can not prevent haze.

4 Surgical masks can be used for how long

In general, medical surgical masks can only take up to four hours at a time, to pay attention to timely replacement. If used for too long, the large particles on the surface of the mask will be clogged, or ultra-fine particles will clog the filter gap of the mask, resulting in reduced filtration efficiency and increased breathing resistance.

It should be emphasized that no matter what kind of mask, its protective effect is limited and needs to be replaced regularly. It is best to replace them every 2 - 4 hours.
