Production growth momentum remains
China's stainless steel production has a history of 40 years. Due to China's sustained rapid economic growth, which contributes to the continued growth of stainless steel production and processing industry. The production of stainless steel has increased year by year in recent years, and China's crude steel production of stainless steel reached 30.14 million tons in 2020, an increase of 740,000 tons from 2019, an increase of 2.5% year-on-year.
According to the statistics of Stainless Steel Branch of China Special Steel Enterprises Association, China's stainless steel crude steel output in 2021 will be 30.632 million tons, an increase of 493,000 tons, or 1.64% year-on-year.
From the proportion of steel, 300 series stainless steel stainless steel market share remained at nearly half of the stainless steel market share in 2021, Cr-Ni (300 series) stainless steel production of 15.067 million tons, accounting for 49.2% of the crude steel production of stainless steel; Cr-Mn (200 series) stainless steel production of 9.058 million tons, accounting for 29.6% of the crude steel production of stainless steel; Cr ( 200 series) stainless steel production of 6.267 million tons, accounting for 20.5% of crude stainless steel production; duplex stainless steel 240,000 tons, accounting for 0.8% of crude stainless steel production.
Import and export scale increased significantly
Import and export, since 2016, China's stainless steel imports showed a shock trend. 2021 China imported 2.927 million tons of stainless steel, an increase of 1.123 million tons, an increase of 62.19%. Among them, 1.356 million tons of stainless steel billet was imported, an increase of 492,000 tons, an increase of 56.98%.
Different from the performance of the import market, since 2016, China's stainless steel exports show a downward trend, in 2020, the country's stainless steel exports of 3.4169 million tons, a decrease of 255,400 tons compared with the previous year, a year-on-year decline of 6.95%.
According to data from the General Administration of Customs, China exported 4.461 million tons of stainless steel in 2021, an increase of 1.044 million tons, an increase of 30.55%. The momentum of the decline in exports has improved.
Domestic demand continues to improve
From the point of view of stainless steel consumption, from 2015 to 2020, China's apparent consumption of stainless steel as a whole is on an upward trend, the data show that, in 2020, China's stainless steel apparent consumption maintains the momentum of growth, with an apparent consumption of 25.61 million tons, an increase of 6.50%.
In 2021, China's stainless steel consumption continues to grow momentum, the annual stainless steel apparent consumption of 26.101 million tons, an increase of 493,000 tons, an increase of 1.92%.
