First, Chernobyl set up a control area at the site, cleaned up radioactive materials and built a new safety cover to control the radiation level. People were restricted from entering the polluted area, and a large area of land was cleared. Large-scale environmental cleaning and residents evacuation were carried out.
A series of medical and psychological support measures have been implemented to monitor and treat victims and survivors. Some innovative technical means have also been adopted, such as fixing radioactive substances in soil with "liquid calcium". At present, there is still radiation pollution in Chernobyl area, and access to these areas is usually restricted. Even in permitted areas, it is necessary to wear protective equipment to reduce the risk of radiation exposure.
Chernobyl accident losses:
1, number of casualties: 4,000 people died of cancer due to radiation. (Reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the World Health Organization); 93,000 casualties (reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency and the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation) and 200,000 additional casualties (unofficial reports of Greenpeace).
2. Death of nature: The first batch of smog with radioactive substances first polluted rivers and forests one kilometer southeast of the town. A large birch forest is like a fire, and soon the leaves will die.
3. A large number of radioactive materials form a high-pressure plume and rise to the sky, which pollutes many countries with the flow of the atmosphere. Most radioactive deposits are located in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
4. In order to control the spread of nuclear radiation dust, the authorities immediately sent people to evacuate135,000 people, of whom about 50,000 were residents of the town of Puri Piater near Chernobyl.
