The Department of Medical Imaging at Shanxi Medical University is the main training base for undergraduate and master's degree students in medical imaging in Shanxi Province. Established in November 2003, the Department of Medical Imaging, formerly known as the First Affiliated Hospital and the Second Affiliated Hospital, was founded by the old generation of imaging practitioners of our province in the 1930s. After more than half a century of unremitting efforts and struggles of several generations, it has developed into a comprehensive faculty integrating teaching, scientific research and medical treatment, and has formed a faculty with a complete range of disciplines, a reasonable academic and age structure, and a strong and vigorous technical force. There are more than 80 professional teachers, including 28 professors and chief physicians, 28 associate professors and deputy chief physicians, 25 lecturers and attending physicians, 19 PhDs and 36 masters; 4 doctoral supervisors, 51 master's supervisors, 2 post-doctoral supervisors, and 5 experts enjoying the State Council's special allowance. Among them, functional 3.0T MRI, multi-row CT, PET-CT and other imaging equipment represent the current international advanced level. It provides sufficient conditions for training high-quality imaging talents, creates good conditions for scientific research and clinical work to track the domestic and international level, and also provides new experimental means for medical scientific research.

The Department of Medical Imaging has recruited undergraduates in medical imaging since 2000, and has trained 471 undergraduates in imaging at present, with an employment rate of up to 90%, a high rate of graduate school and doctoral degree examination and a trend of growth year by year, and the graduates are distributed in large and medium-sized hospitals or institutions of higher learning all over the country to engage in scientific research and teaching work.

In recent years, we have undertaken more than 80 national "Eighth Five-Year Plan" research projects, Ministry of Health and provincial scientific research projects, and won 2 first prizes for scientific and technological progress in Shanxi Province, 22 second prizes, 15 third prizes, and 9 awards for national advanced achievements, and have published more than 300 academic papers at the national level and more than 400 papers at the provincial level. 28 articles have been indexed by SCI.
