Human cryonics, also known as cryogenic freezing and cryopreservation, is the preservation of the human body or body parts by means of cryogenic freezing. Advocates of this technology see it as a magical process of cheating death and hope that they will be able to come back to life again when medicine is advanced enough to treat any disease or condition.
Currently, it is only legal to freeze people who have been declared dead. The freezing process must begin as soon as possible after the patient's death, this is to prevent brain damage, and currently Russia, the United States and Portugal have such cryogenic freezing equipment. During the cryogenic process, the body is placed in an ice bath where the temperature is gradually lowered bit by bit. Staff then drain the blood and replace it with an antifreeze liquid to stop harmful ice crystals forming inside the body.
