Differences between zwave and wifi in smart home applications

When Z-Wave technology was originally designed, it was located in the field of smart home wireless control. Using small data format for transmission, the transmission rate of 40kb/s is enough, and even 9.6kb/s was used in the early days. Compared with other similar wireless technologies, its transmission frequency is relatively low and its transmission distance is relatively long.

Realizing the application of wifi in the smart home field is actually to connect the network composed of home devices, not the home Internet network, but as a wireless communication technology, it is directly connected to the smart home network and the home Internet network without the conversion of different signals, thus reducing the development difficulty of wifi technology in the smart home field, so the price of devices equipped with Wifi is more easily accepted and purchased by most people. Wifi covers a wide range of radio waves, with a radius of 100 meters, which can be used in homes, offices and even the whole building. At the same time, the transmission speed of Wifi is very fast, reaching 1 1mbps, which meets the needs of personal and social informatization. WifiI has its own obvious shortcomings, such as high power consumption, low security and anti-interference, and limited carrying capacity of network equipment. Once there are more appliances in the home, wifi is powerless. Manufacturers of light smart homes are more inclined to use home wifi to directly connect home devices, and put wifi modules into switches and sockets as the entrance and controllable center of light smart homes to realize intelligent control of home devices.

Compared with the two, Z-wave is more suitable for smart home, but Z-wave is not the most suitable. At present, ZigBee wireless communication technology is widely used.
