High-voltage lines on the human body radiation

Many people talk about high-voltage lines in life, and even see high-voltage lines will produce a sense of fear, this fear stems from our lack of knowledge of high-voltage lines. In fact, as long as outside the specified distance, high-voltage lines have no effect on human safety and health.

Electromagnetic radiation is the phenomenon of energy traveling through space in the form of electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic radiation is divided into polar electric type electromagnetic radiation, radio frequency electromagnetic radiation and industrial frequency electromagnetic radiation. When the frequency of electromagnetic waves is low, the energy can only be propagated with the help of conductors (such as transmission lines) without spillover.

Because electromagnetic radiation is a high-frequency electromagnetic waves to produce, such as transmitting stations, medical CT machines and other high-frequency equipment, the frequency is generally as high as thousands or even tens of millions of megahertz. And power facilities, even if the voltage level is high, its generation of industrial frequency electric field and industrial frequency magnetic field are very low frequency field, frequency is only 50 hertz, the wavelength is very long, is a kind of industrial frequency electromagnetic radiation, which is used at home and the frequency of light bulbs for 50 hertz is the same, on the surrounding environment can not produce effective electromagnetic radiation.

Objectively speaking, the magnetic field strength of power transmission and transformation facilities is even smaller than the industrial frequency magnetic induction strength of some household appliances, such as televisions, microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, etc.; and cell phones, electromagnetic furnaces, radio and television towers, communication stations produced by electromagnetic radiation compared to electric power facilities of the industrial frequency electromagnetic radiation is negligible.

What is the size of the industrial-frequency electric field (that is, the electric field generated by high-voltage lines) to meet the requirements of environmental protection and public safety protection? The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) has recommended a guideline for the limitation of electromagnetic field radiation to all countries in the world. What are these limits? The electric field strength should not exceed 5 kV/meter, and the magnetic induction strength should not exceed 100 microtesla.

But this is only a professional organization's guidelines, not mandatory, countries have their own standards.

American standard: electric field strength not exceeding 5 kV/m, magnetic induction strength not exceeding 900 micro Tesla

European Union standard: electric field strength not exceeding 5 kV/m, magnetic induction strength not exceeding 100 micro Tesla

Japanese standard: electric field strength not exceeding 3 kV/m, magnetic induction strength is not specified

Australia's Standard: electric field strength not exceeding 5 kV/m, magnetic induction strength not exceeding 100 microtesla

British standard: electric field strength not exceeding 12 kV/m, magnetic induction strength not exceeding 1600 microtesla

German standard: electric field strength not exceeding 5 kV/m, magnetic induction strength not exceeding 100 microtesla

Swiss standard: electric field strength does not exceed 5 kV/m and the magnetic induction strength does not exceed 1 microtesla

Chinese standard: electric field strength does not exceed 4 kV/m and the magnetic induction strength does not exceed 100 microtesla.
