In 1925, the "30th of May" movement, Changting Evangelical Hospital of the British Church doctors returned to China, by Fu Lianzhang took over as director. 1927 September, "August 1" Nanchang Uprising troops through Changting, Fu Lianzhang led the Evangelical Hospital medical staff for the troops to treat more than 300 wounded. Medical personnel for the troops treated more than 300 sick and wounded. In March 1929, Mao Zedong, - led the Red Army into Fujian for the first time after the liberation of Changting County, and for the Red Army all the fighters inoculated cowpox, treatment of the sick and wounded, became the first hospital in the Central Soviet Area to serve the Red Army. Under Mao Zedong's initiative, the hospital was attached to the "Central Medical School" and "Central Nursing School", which trained a large number of medical personnel for the Red Army and solved the difficulties of the Red Army's lack of medical treatment at that time.

In the fall of 1932, Mao Zedong came to the hospital to recuperate from his exhaustion. While recuperating, he went into the masses to conduct social surveys, and helped the Tingzhou City Soviet Government correct its bureaucratic practices according to the feedback from the masses. He summarized these problems and used Changting's burlap paper to write the glorious work "Care for the Life of the Masses, Pay Attention to the Methods of Work," which later became an important report by Mao Zedong at the Second All-Soviet Congress.

Early in 1933, Fu Lianzhang donated all the equipment, medicines and property of the Gospel Hospital to the Soviet central government, and the Gospel Hospital was moved to Ruijin in Jiangxi Province, formally reorganized as the "Central Red Hospital". Fu Lian Rizhang was also praised as "the first model in the Soviet area" by Red China, an organ of the central government, and in October 1934, Fu Lian Rizhang participated in the 25,000-mile Long March with the Central Red Army. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he served successively as Vice Minister of the Central Health Department, Vice Minister of the Health Department of the General Logistics Department, President of the Chinese Medical Association, etc. In 1955, he was awarded the rank of Lieutenant General of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). He was the first "red doctor" to serve the Red Army, and made significant contributions to the liberation of the Chinese people and the medical and health care of the Party and the Army.
