The General Purpose Electrode Negative Plate may cause electrical burns or pressure necrosis if not used properly. To ensure patient safety, the following instructions need to be followed.
1. Use the appropriate negative plate, equipment, and accessories
2. To minimize the risk of burns, do not overload the General Purpose negative plate with excessive current.
- Do not activate the electrosurgical device or active accessories for more than 60 seconds in any 2-minute period, as this will cause the universal negative plate to be overloaded with current, resulting in patient burns.
- Any combination of high power, long activation times, and conductive stimulants (e.g., saline) may result in excessive current loading of the universal negative plate, causing patient burns.
3. Selecting an appropriate surgical site
- Select a smooth, well-vascularized, muscular area near the surgical site that allows for complete universal negative plate-skin contact.
- The surgical site must be clean, dry and hairless. Remove hair from the application site.
- Bring the Universal Negative Plate closer to the surgical site than the ECG electrodes.l
- Remove metal jewelry.
- Avoid landing points on bone prominences, metal restorations, or scar tissue locations.
- Avoid passing electrical current through the metal restoration or conductive implant drop point. For patients with implanted electronic devices, contact the device manufacturer to take precautions to avoid interference.
- Do not use universal negative plates in areas of fluid concentration.
- Do not use the Universal Negative Plate at the injection site.
- Choose an appropriate surgical position away from all warning facilities.
4. Negative Plate Use
- Inspect the Universal Negative Plate, wires and cables. Do not use if there are any signs of cutting, modification or damage.
- Smoothly press one end of the universal negative plate to the other. Avoid creating internal air bubbles.
- Avoid stretching or folding the Universal Negative Plate or the patient's skin.
- Do not use conductive adhesive.
- Do not wrap the Universal Anode Plate completely around the straight arm. Do not overlap.
- Do not reposition the Universal Anode Plate after the first application. If repositioning the patient, verify that the plate is in full contact with the skin and that all connections are intact.
- Do not place compression stockings or devices on the Universal Anode Plate.
- Do not wrap cords or cables around straight arms or metal objects.
- Do not place cords or cables on or under the patient's body.
- Do not pinch the cable on the patient's body.
5. Negative Plate Removal
- Do not remove the negative plate by pulling on the cable or rope.
- Start at the corners. Slowly peel and roll horizontally to avoid skin trauma.
