Machang town has a long history and rich cultural heritage. In the Qing Dynasty, Liu Qingyun, a famous poetess and songwriter at home and abroad, and her husband Qian Meipo once lived here. Her 24 masterpieces of lyrics and songs, such as "Copying Poems from Little Penglai Fairy Hall" and "Legend of Little Penglai Fairy Hall", were all written in the "Little Penglai Fairy Hall" in the north of Machangji Town. Modern writer, famous journalist and senior editor of People's Daily were also born in the racecourse. He wrote a lot in his life. Ten Miles of Beauty, with Machang as its theme, was all the rage during the Anti-Japanese War and played an important role in propaganda and agitation for the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. Yang Jiajiang, Black Peony and other novellas created by the public in Yan Yong are also his representative works. Racecourse has a glorious page in the history of China's revolutionary struggle. During the period of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, this was an area with frequent revolutionary activities, and the first party branch in Shuyang County was born in the racecourse. The first county government of Shuyang County was also established in Mapeng Village, Machang Town, and once led the underground struggle in Southeast Village of Democratic Village. Racecourse is a place of heroes and an old revolutionary base area. Chen Yi, Zhang Aiping, Li Yu, Li Yimang and other proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation all lived and fought here. From 65438 to 0942, the blacksmiths in this area, under the leadership of the Party organization, set up an iron trade union to manufacture homemade steel guns to support the front line of the Anti-Japanese War, which was later called "Machangzao". He made an indelible contribution to the victory of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation.
