What does Micron do?

Micron is one of the world's largest manufacturers of semiconductor storage and imaging products.

Micron Technology, Inc. is headquartered in Boise, Idaho, the capital of the northwestern United States. Through its global operations, Micron manufactures and brings to market DRAM, NAND flash memory, CMOS image sensors, other semiconductor components, and memory modules for use in leading-edge computing, consumer products, networking, and mobile portable products. Micron's common stock is symbolized as MU and trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Micron's advanced products are used in a wide range of mobile, computing, service, automotive, networking, security, industrial, consumer and medical applications, providing customers with targeted solutions for these diverse end-use applications. Micron first established a facility in Xi'an, China on March 21, 2007 to produce DRAM and NAND flash memory.

Micron Technology's History

In 1978, Micron Technology, Inc. was founded; Micron has a global presence with 26,000 regular employees worldwide, including 10,000 in Asia. In China, Micron Technology Inc. has established a marketing office and IC design center in Shanghai; marketing offices in Beijing and Shenzhen, and is committed to providing a high level of service to customers in Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Fujian and other provinces.

In September 2005, Micron decided to build Micron's semiconductor plant in China in Xi'an after a comprehensive study of more than 10 cities in China, a project that includes chip module assembly and chip packaging and testing, creating more than 2,000 jobs.

On March 21, 2007, Micron inaugurated the plant in Xi'an Hi-Tech Zone, which is a wholly foreign-owned enterprise and one of the largest foreign-invested enterprises in Shaanxi Province. The plant will focus on testing and packaging of Micron Technology's semiconductor products.
